old school rock pub, beloved of the goth/headbanger type
decent beer, great night time atmosphere if you like the smell of sweat and the sound of axl roses power whine.......seriously, this place is a rockers heaven and being that, it keeps them out of the other town pubs. ps don't put the scissor sisters on the jukebox as you might get lynched !

the litten tree is a classic example of a modern city pub that wants all your money but offers nowt in return...poor generic pub food at high prices, sulky, sour service and beer so poor that i have an overpriced bottle when forced in there.....its stays open late on a weekend for the "i wanna fight at the taxi rank youths" who frequent it....best avoided methinks

a real tryer

relaxed boozer on the cannock road at fallings park thats improved due to a refit last year...its set itself up as a family eaterie, getting rid of its old pool room and bar in favour of the one size fits all approach..ie its one large horseshoe shaped room....the sports crowd evicted from the bar have a smallish area with a couple of regular size tv's..the rest of the pub is comfortable enough for a meal at anytime of day...the lions major attraction for families is a huge garden area and tidy patio at the rear.
its quite cheap £2.05 for carling as of 3 dec 2008 and though dominated by locals is friendly too...the only problem can be slow service.

pop in for quick one

the hogs has some plus points, its easy to find in town as a meeting place, its basically one largish room and a smokers garden at the rear...its popular before wolves home games as its a quarter of a mile from molineux.
it's the beer that worries me most, it varies from round to round so much so you may drink up and venture elsewhere,
its menu is burger and wraps.. and there are a couple of pool tables and a table football set up too...proximity wise its opposite the varsity and royal london, 150 yards from the moon under water and grand theatre...if only the beer was consistent i'd possibly 4 star it as a tryer

"the cleve", as it's known to locals and regulars can provide a decent night out but it depends on wether or not any entertainment is provided...live sport on a big screen might not suit everyone but the pub thrives on it. its a large relatively modern set up with multiple pool tables and a nonedescript burger based menu...the beer is the usual carling/stella fodder backed by a variety of "jug" offers..on a weekend its staffed by decent doormen and though busy the staff work hard to serve you promptly.
the age groups courted by the cleve cover the 18 to 35 crowd.
i've not regreted a night out at the cleve but i hardly stay awake all night planning my next visit either....its very much a place you need to work with and not against..ie cheer the sport and play some pool, otherwise it can be a long night
