FRIENDLY & GOOD FOOD
4
We had seen reviews that were not very complimentary on other review sites, but as were passing thought we would call in.
A friendly pub offering a range of foods including carvery which my wife and I had. (the beef was a little too red for us but that's personal preference). A good range of vegtables. A coffee was included in the carvery price.
Quite happy to go there again.

The Imperial Hotel
Exmouth | Hotels
nice place but don't be misled

Whilst this is a nice hotel in a nice location, you need to realize this is a Shearings Hotel. Meaning that they have introduced a parking charge to seemingly guarantee a parking place as they say there is restricted parking but fear not there is parking on surrounding streets. However, this hotel has a VERY large car park so don't fall for paying £5,00 per night to reserve a space!

FRIENDLY & HELPFUL

Had a long weekend accompanied by lots of snow! Were early & staff provided cups of tea. The room was very nice with a large comfortable bed & all usual facilities. We were placed on the ground floor as my wife is Disabled.
Restaurant provided English & Indian food, There is a separate bar area -facilities for snacks. However, when there in March the bar was not open during the day & snacks not available. There is a small shop nearby doing sandwiches etc.
There was some irritating noise from above like clicking of stiletto hells constantly back and forwards, Mentioning this to Reception there was no hesitation in moving us to an adjoining room so no complaints there. The source of noise was not identified that we know off. Bookings were well down with many cancellations due to several inches of snow. The City Centre a few minutes drive (walkable in 5 minutes or so). Cathedral built 1962ish well worth visit with the remains of the old Cathedral adjacent. Visit Transport Museum to

DATED BUT WARM & FRIENDLY
5
Rooms over several floors served by a lift, with disabled access.
A dated establishment but clean and providing what you would expect of a bed and breakfast.
We had an avocado wc and wash basin that took us back in time, but it didn't matter at all.
The breakfast was self service with a choice of cerals and fruits, tea and coffee.
Toasters were available with white and brown bread. jams etc.
Hot food was provided in a heated unit and comprised bacon (nicely done) sausage, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms etc.
The owners was on hand to assist if required and ensure everyone was okay.
We went in March paying just £49.00 for a double. Well satisfied.

We have stayed at this Hotel twice. We booked online both times on a b&b basis.
The breakfast is self service and had a wide range of hot and cold food.
Also available is a bar and facility for mid day snacks at reasonable prices also these can be provided at other times as well..
You can also book in for an evening meal which we have done and found the selection and quality of crusine quite satisfactory.
The rooms are of a good standard and you can book an upgrade if you wish.
The Hotel has a large free car park behind the facility which is very large.
There is gym and and other leisure facilities on site if you wish for a reasonable charge.

Comfortable

We have been to this Shearings Group Hotel 5 times. Most guests seem to book and come by coach from various points in the UK. However, you can book self drive.
This hotel is very old and has lifts that leave a lot to be desired. We were told they were to be replaced some time back but alas as of November 2012 they still have to be coaxed!
However, efforts continue to be made to decorate and improve the facilities but is in the shadow of the Imperial Hotel across the road that is Shearings
However, the rooms are ok as is the choice of food. Evening entertainment used to be in a large room at semi basement level but in November it was shut and folk were squeezed in the lounge/bar area.
Although Shearing send regular emails and brochure offers and advertise regularly in the newspapers you MUST remember now that Shearings have instituted car parking charges even if you have a Mobility car! It is £5.00 a day currently and needs to be booked in advance.
The other Hotel has a very large car park but whilst we used to park over there (and did this visit) at no cost, you will find that you have to pay there too! So Shearings have introduced a cost you have to be aware of that we feel is scurrilous and downright greedy!

This is a Shearings Group Hotel, who have a number of Hotels throughout the UK which take coaches who have picked up guests for a weekend or mid week breaks, who have booked through them, but also takes self drive folk like us.
This old establishment, which has continued to be updated and decorated offers good accommodation, food choice and has helpful friendly staff. Rooms are over 3 floors but there is only one small lift holding 3 at a squeeze! So remember this when booking if you are not good on stairs since there can be a wait for the lift at busy times. Also, regretfully this Hotel chain has introduced charges to park in their car park (£5.00 per night) which we consider greedy and unwarranted. This has to be remembered when booking as parking outside some Hotels is costly so you are caught. This is especially unhelpful for Disabled drivers who need to park near the accommodation so beware!

The Green Man Ringmer
Lewes | Pub Restaurants
VERY SATISFYING

A pub with a difference. Although quite large, it works like clockwork. the staff are on the ball and carefully supervised by Matthew who ensures everything runs smoothly even when full and people waiting for the very reasonable Sunday roast. This is a roast that is as it should be, Properly cooked meat and vegs cooked to perfection and plentiful. In the package of the roast of the day there's a choice of sweet included all for less than a tenner. Excellent value. That's why you have to book, why folk are disappointed because they can't get in late. Well done folk at Green Man-keep it up!

EXPENSIVE FOOD& POOR QUANTITY
1
Expectations were fairly high going along for an evening meal from a nearby overnight stay. Regretfully the choice on the menu was poor and the prices much higher than anticipated but having already ordered drinks decided to stay. This was a regretted move since the quantity of food was not sufficient to feed a two year old. We chose rainbow trout and expected that not a measly 2inch by 4inch piece with four small roast potatoes. £12.95 each for that we were ripped off and were hungry afterwards. How places get away with this we do not know just because they have some sort of rating. A place to be avoided if you wish to have a proper satisfying meal at affordable prices for the man in the street.
