Top pizza from a chain brand
4
Top view of the cathedral square and top pizzas - thin and crispy bases with rich tomato sauce and great toppings for flavour. Mines a venziana - capers, sultanas, olives, red onion - delicious. Most importantly they dont overload the thing with cheese. This is an excellent place for people watching and a great venue for a meal with friends and a bottle of wine. A warm friendly atmosphere with excellent service - upmarket style without upmarket costs. Can tend to get crammed so book in advance.

Salads and breads are also excellent, but you tend to feel you're there for the pizza so can often miss out. Advice - get some to share.

Serenity

The cathedral is beautiful and well worth a look-see. Full of history (quite literally - its stores many medieval writings) and charm. Its a bit distasteful that you have to pay, but then that is the church - it would be much more acceptable if donations were voluntary, but then this is a student town so I guess they feel the need to stress the point! The best thing about the cathedral is the outdoor space - sit under the trees on the green soaking up the atmosphere which although always bustling manages to be serene and peaceful. An excellent place to relax on a sunny day and do a bit of reading. Has a central park type vibe only on a very very small scale! Lovely.

ODEON Exeter

Bog standard odeon cinema

A fairly bulk standard cinema with all the usual suspects - overpriced popcorn, watered down drinks and e-numbered to the nine sweeties. But tickets are reasonable, sound quality is decent and the seats are comfy enough. Can be difficult to get in on a busy night so book if you're keen to see something specific - otherwise there's usually space at one of the screens. Orange wednesdays makes it especially affordable - to for the price of one with a code. Overall you're not going to get a quaint cinematic 'experience' but you will see the latest film you want to see on the big screen with good sound and picture quality, and nine times out of ten that's all you're after anyway.

Not really a 'farm shop'
5
Darts farm is brilliant - local fresh fruit and veg, cheeses, meats, booze, toys, arts and crafts, choccies and biccies - it has it all with a real luxury feel. Good ethics behind this farm company, but watch out because you could easily end up spending a small fortune once all the little extras have found their way into your basket. The place also has a fish counter, and the gifts section is perfect for picking up a pressie for someone when you dont quite no what to buy for them. The cafe is always busy although a little overlooked by the shop, but serves tasty fresh food fairly quickly, although like the produce prices are at a premium.

5 minutes out

Get something warm and tasty off the drinks menu and take it upstairs for a post-shopping breather on one of the sofas. The white hot chocolate will warm your cockles especially with one of the flapjack type slices form the cakes cabinet. There's a chilled atmosphere and you can just sit and listen to the student chat filling the air, read a paper or play one of the games littered around the room. A decent coffee stop for a rainy day breather.

Word of warning the sandwiches are heavily overpriced, overchilled and flavourless. Not worth the £4. If you want a lunch, go elsewhere.

Lively though small bar
4
Decent place for a good night on the lash - always lively and no charge on the door, and feels laid back and welcoming. Decent music although dancing takes place in the low-ceilinged 'cave' at the back of the bar. May struggle to get anywhere to sit down, and can wait a long time to get served at the bar but thats true of everywhere. Good drinks lists including a decent selection of wine, and prices arent ridiculous. All in all a good place to spend the first few hours of your night with your good friends... eyeing up the usual falmouth oddities!

Modern beach cafe

Good lunches and a good spot for a bite to eat with friends. However, due to the location, it is always EXTREMELY busy and you can wait a very long time to get a table and place your order, and even longer to manage to grab one of the outdoor spots - get the couchs and you've achieved something special - unless its tipping it down of course! The food is up to standard, but the place is a little more upmarket than you would expect from a beach cafe and this is reflected in the prices. However, the refurb has made a great difference, and this is still a place I would recommend following a walk along the beach.

Excellent

Wide selection of delicious meals available - everything tastes out of this world! This cafe-style restaurant is ALWAYS busy and you may struggle to get a table on a busy shopping day. And there is a reason for this. The place is bright (lots of nice art on the walls) with a bright atmosphere and bright friendly staff - you leave feeling very satisfied. The best thing is the 3 salads which come as a side on most of the dishes which are always all delicious without fail and the homemade soups. Its very refreshing not be confronted with the same drab veggie options - this is a place and menu with soul - vegetarian or not you cant go wrong.

Sarnies and soup
3
Best place for a quick simple lunch when shopping in truro. Old favourites on the menu - i.e. sarnies and jacket potatoes. Decor is a little outdated, but the staff are friendly enough and theres alway custom in which attests to the popularity of the backstreet cafe. Personally, I usually have the soup with a salad sandwhich which is always a lunch put together well. With a pot of tea for two. Perfect re-fuelling to get back to the shops. And if you can fit it in afterwards, theres always a tasty range of puds in the cabinets to delay your fourth return to topshop with her to look at the same item of clothing again!

NB. May be difficult to get pushchairs in due to the stairs.

Better than subway
3
Excellent choice for a takeaway lunch if you can avoid the temptation of the pasty shop next door. Made to order sandwhiches available on a selection of breads, and guaranteed to be better for you than subway's manufactured rubbish. Paninis are also available. Even better value for money is the pasta salad boxes - various fillings available piled on top of cold pre-cooked pasta and lots of salad. Take it across to the killacourt and eat a delicious lunch looking over the atlantic. Watch out for the seagulls though!

Only downside is the polystyrene boxes they're served in and the plastic cutlery - would be nice to see a greener choice some time soon.
