I'm certainly not returning to Swallow
1
Thursday 24th January 2008 (rewritten-13th March 2008)
This was supposed to be a special night out. The ambience could be described as cold and indifferent. Not so my Steak, Mushroom and Guinness pie which had been reheated so many times it was totally dried out. It looked fine from the outside but when the puff-pastry lid was removed, the contents had been reduced to and 15mm layer of sediment that had the taste and consistency of an OXO cube. A tide mark near the lip of the dish showed where the gravy level had originally been.
So if you want a meal prepared by kitchen staff who seemingly haven't a clue about good kitchen practice and leave pies in the warming plate for days and days, this is the place to go. It makes you wonder what other horrors they cook up in the place.
Neither the manager nor the chef bothered to put in an appearence to tender an appology.
My complaint to Mitchells and Butlers was rewarded on the 7th February 2008, with the following statement:_
"May I stress that these issues, along with overall standards within the Swallows Return Worthing have been addressed with retraining of his (manager's) team and a more focussed attitude towards quality and standards in order to continually meet our guests' expectations".
It sounds like 'Fistralrocks' and 'Mumstheword' would disagree with that statement.
All complaints should be addressed to Mr Bond, Business Retail Manager. Mitchells and Butlers. 27 Fleet St. Birmingham. B3 1JP.
