Lovely pub with good food, good beer and lots of character

Popped in today for a coffee after a walk, not expecting much after reading other reviews, but found it to be a top notch pub. The staff were friendly and welcoming (perhaps as a result of the critical reviews in the past). They had a selection real ales, which were well kept, over 300 malt whiskies, a good pub food menu - I had the Guinness and Steak Pie, which was excellent - no cutting corners, lots of big chunks of meat. The feel of the pub was nice, lots of ambience. The area we sat in (to the far side of the toilets as you enter the bar) had an amazing hand carved chair and tables in the shape of crabs, each carved from a single piece of wood - works of art. Would definitely recommend.
