• Strong parent reviews and ratings

• Positive Ofsted ratings and reports (with “Outstanding” ratings being the highest)

This can give you a better sense of whether a day nursery is the right fit.

More broadly, day nursery fees vary by exact location and the child’s age. The amount that individual day nurseries charge will partly depend on experience and prestige, too, with some nurseries more in demand than others.

In some cases, you could be eligible for government support programs, like Tax-Free Childcare or the childcare element of Universal Credit. These can significantly reduce your total spending on day nurseries, but not everyone is eligible for these benefits.

Whether you’re able to leverage these schemes or not, we recommend you explore as many day nurseries in Hay-On-Wye as you’re able to; finding the right fit is about cost, but also availability, convenience, and gut feeling.
