Prickwillow Engine Museum

9 Main St, Prickwillow, Ely, CB7 4UN Directions

Business overview

Unique collection of large working diesel engines housed in an expanding museum telling the story of the Drainage of the Fens and its social history. Car park; cafe facilities.

Exciting museum displaying unique collection of large working diesel engines, including the original Mirrlees, Bickerton and Day drainage engine used to drain the fens - still in its original position in the engine house at Prickwillow. Short introductory video introduces the Story of Fenland Drainage which continues through information boards, photos and memorabilia.

Look out for Event Days held throughout the year when these restored and lovingly cared for engines can be seen bursting into action, demonstrated by the enthusiastic band of volunteers.

Private group bookings are also catered for, as well as school workshops.

The first weekend in October will see the museum and neighbouring farm come to life for the Prickwillow Ploughing Festival - not only horses and tractors ploughing, but also stationary engines, static vehicles, traction engines, trade stands, craft stalls, live music and entertainment, catering facilities and real ale bar with free shuttle bus from Ely.
