coffee heaven, maybe
Starbucks coffee house at notting hill used to be a favorite until I gave up drinking coffee every day. I still love the aroma of a freshly ground coffee but it started giving me head aches when I drank it regularly, no fault of starbucks though, so only have the ocassional one now as a treat. I loved the frothy topping on my coffee and the syrups you can add are divine, ooh they are so moorish. Still, I really do feel that starbucks are a bit pricey, I mean how much profit do they want. It has saved me loads of cash since I decided to only have one coffee every now and then.

London Aquarium

Ok
Our recent visit to the london aquarium was quite good. It has around 400 species in over 50 displays , the best of which was the big shark tank, which we stood and gazed a for ages. It is right next to the london eye and westminster bridge, so nice and easy to find. The family ticket is around £45 which does seem quite a lot of money and this place is not really an all day activity, but we did enjoy it and later found out we could have saved more money if we had got some discount vouchers. Never mind we will be more aware next time we visit. Trouble is the kids want to adopt a cute little shark next time, who are they kidding.

wow
This is amazing and not just form the out side either. Go and visit it and tour the state rooms which are open to the public, but hurry up they are only open until the 29th september and then re open next year. A family ticket cost us close on £40.00 but we thought it was worth it and this can be for 2 adults and up to 3 kids under 17.
We saw the Palace’s Ballroom which was set up for a State Banquet.
The horseshoe shaped table which they use on these occasions is covered in beautiful silver gilt items from the grand service, we also saw lots of wonderful jewelled cups, ivory tankards, dishes, sconces, shields, wow, it was incredible. The palace is a must see, do it soon though other wise you will have missed out till next year, can you really wait till then

The Natural History Museum

loved it
The natural history museum in kensington on cromwell road is wonderful from start to finish. The exterior of the building if full of the most amazing carvings of exotic animals and birds and the entrance hall houses the huge and imposing diplodocus skeleton. The kids will love it and so will adults. It is busy though so be prepared for this, but it is free, so money saved on the entrance fee can go towards a snack in the cafe, or for some thing in the gift shop. If you do want to see the dinosaur section in full then you do pay a little for that now, but it is worth it.

science museum
The science museum on exhibition road in kensington is an easy to get to free entrance museum. It is a good place for a family day out. The cafe is ok and offers some nice cookies, but is a bit over priced. The launch pad place is fun for the kids, the bit where you stand in a booth and the light flashes, then leaves your image behind as you had posed, was fun. But this part is really busy and full of very excited kiddies. The museum has a shop area which has a good selection of science based gift ideas, we bought a make your own mini loud speaker and are still being tortured with it... big mistake. A must see really.

over rated
The trocadero is in soho, in coventry street, I have been here twice. Once when it was the sega centre many moons ago and more recently and it was not worth the effort on both occasions. The trocadero is a mish mash of shops and amusement arcades that is over priced and over rated. The most eye catching and memorable thing about it would be the massive escalators , which are hair raisingly scary and not for the faint hearted. Well it is on five floors. It is too pricey and not value for money and I would not go again when there are better places to go and spend quality time with the family, a definate no go for me.

Cadenheads Whisky Shop & Tasting Room
London | Off Licences & Wine Merchants

whisky drinkers paradise
Whisky lovers every where should check out Cadenheads.
The Covent Garden Whisky Shop is the only shop in London that sells true malt whiskies. They said that they usually have over 170 or so malt whiskies in stock,so when I went gift hunting I was really spoilt for choice. That did make it hard to pick some thing but the staff were helpful.
If you are looking for some thing individual and unique then this is the place for you.
They never add any artificial colouring to their whiskies to enhance the colour and it is not usual for more than one whisky to be bottled at a time. This means that each malt even from a from particular distillery can offer different flavours. I chose the cambletown malt for my gift and it went down a treat. Will be back to buy a few xmas gifts here very soon, but need to budget for this as it is not cheap here.

yum
Thorntons at the piazza , covent garden are a good place to top up on all you chocolate favorites. The small bars like the truffle bar are a nice lunch time treat when you are on the go. There is a new selection of chocolate bars which have unusual flavours to them, such as the dark choc and balsamic vinegar bar, which is very good and nothing like you would imagine, the orange and cardemon bar is equally moorish and tasty. I think they have an offer on those right now which is 3 for £5, which is really great value. Thorntons are very good value and go down well when you give them as presents too. On the whole a good little shop in a busy location.

L'Artisan Du Chocolat

Naughty but nice
L artisan du chocolat which is located on sloane street is easily reachable form the sloane street under ground station and boy is it worth it. The selection of delights on offer are unrivalled and addictive. One of the shops best sellers and my favorites too, are liquid salted caramels, ( I know they sound odd) which have a dark chocolate shell which is filled with a lovely liquid caramel, that has a hint of sea salt, they are really good. There chocolate bars such as the fusion bars are a must buy. The artisan min taster box is good value and gives you a little taste of different styles. Pricey but adorable what lovely gifts this place sells.

ok for frozen food
Iceland are a big chain of frozen food stores all over the country which offer fair value for money, but offer a limited selection of food at average quality at best. Have pooped in here to pick up a few bits and pieces, but would not say it is my favorite store in the world. If you like ready meals or just do not have the time or energy to cook for yourself then iceland is a god send. How ever I do feel that you can not live on this sort of food all the time. On the plus side the party sized cakes and gateaux are very good value and always go down a treat at parties and bbq s.
