Driving Schools

31 January 2024 – 4 Minute Read

Whether you’ve passed your theory test or you’re just getting started, here’s everything you need to know about driving schools.

Most driving instructors use hatchbacks, saloons or estates. Their cars are often small, compact vehicles – popular choices include Ford Fiestas, Minis, Vauxhall Corsas, Skoda Fabias, and Peugeot 108s – which learner drivers might find easier to handle.

The car you learn in will partly depend on the type of lessons you choose. If you’re taking automatic driving lessons, you’ll obviously learn in an automatic car.

The only real requirement, though, is that the car is roadworthy. It should be in good working order with a valid MOT. Another point worth noting is that instructors cannot use convertible vehicles.
