West Coast Archaelogical Services

West Coast Archaeological Services was established in January 2004 by Steven Birch. WCAS provides contract archaeology services to a wide variety of public sectors, including construction, engineering, utilities and forestry, as well as private individuals and community groups throughout the Highlands & Islands. We are dedicated in keeping archaeological contracts within the Highlands and maintain excellent relationships with our Highlands & Islands based colleagues and with the Highland Council Historic Environment Team. We pride ourselves on our commitment to provide a professional and efficient service at all times, whilst maintaining the highest quality of work at competitive prices.

We have been working on contract, community and research-based archaeological projects for the past 14 years and have a keen interest in research designed survey and excavation fieldwork. Steven has worked on a wide range of archaeological sites and projects while working in Scotland including survey and excavation projects for Forestry Commission Scotland. Steven is co-director of the High Pasture Cave & Environs Project, which ran has a community archaeology project on the island of Skye for eight years, and the Fiskavaig Rock Shelter Excavations, also in Skye, between 2007 and 2010.
