Watford House Residential Home

Watford House was constructed around the turn of the 18th century, from local stone and is situated in 2 acres of landscaped gardens. The house is situated on the edge of the Peak District, on the outskirts of New Mills, Marple Bridge and Mellor, in a quiet residential area within easy reach of the centres.

The management of Watford House prides themselves on offering a highly professional Residential Care Service for people living with Dementia with a personal touch. We provide personal care to all who require such support to remain independent. This service is centred on maintaining a warm and homely atmosphere to uphold our ethos.

This Home aims to sustain the quality of the services provided to the residents while meeting the challenge of the new regulatory requirements on the services provided. We place the rights of residents at the forefront of our philosophy of care. We seek to advance these rights in all aspects of the environment and the services we provide and to encourage our residents to exercise their rights to the full.

Carers strive to preserve and maintain the respect, dignity, individuality and privacy of all residents and in so doing will be sensitive to the resident's ever-changing needs. Such needs may be medical/therapeutic (for physical and mental welfare), cultural, psychological, spiritual, emotional and social, and residents are encouraged to participate in the development of their individualised Care Plans in which the involvement of family and friends may be appropriate and greatly valued.

It must always be understood that “A resident is never an interruption to our work. A resident is a reason for our work.”

Watford House is registered with the Care Quality Commission for dementia and residential care.

Poor and rated Requires Improvement

It is not a good care home at all. All style over substance. It is now nice to look at but the respite care of my mother was well below par. I spoke to them on a number of occasions about their failings and was just fobbed off. Most of the 5-star reviews are all on the same day and month, probably staff trying to bump ratings up. They've taken-down their Facebook page and their Website now - what are they hiding? They've been rated a Requires Improvement for nearly a year now - that must tell you something!

Not a 5 star care home

My relative recently moved from Watford House due to many issues endured over the 11 months there. I would advise anyone considering moving a loved one into Watford House to do LOTS of research - read the CQC reports thoroughly, ask LOTS of questions of both staff and residents' families, and visit the home more than once (and preferably at different times of the day and night). My relative is now in a wonderful care home, which is the antithesis of Watford House.

Respite care

My dad stayed at Watford House for respite in September and we could not have been happier with the care that he received, so much so that he will be visiting again soon so I can go away for a break. He made friends with both staff and other patients and the change in him socially was incredible.
If anyone is caring for a loved one at home and thinks that there is no one out there to give you the chance to have a break please think again, Watford house is the place to go. They treat everyone with love and respect and will take patients in for just a few days, weeks or longer.
It gives me the chance to recharge my batteries while knowing that my dad is safe and enjoying his time at Watford House. Thank you to the team!

A wonderful home

Watford house is a place where everyone is made to feel cared for, comfortable, and safe. The staff are beyond patient and despite their heavy workload they ensure that each resident is given the time and respect they deserve. The improvements made by the new management team have changed the whole environment which is now clean, modern and more dementia friendly. I would recommend anyone to take a visit and meet the fantastic people who live and work there.

A heartfelt review

I think Watford House, its carers, cooks, Management and laundry workers, indeed everyone, need a medal, for the love, happiness and hardwork they all put in for all who reside there.
Dementia in any of its guises is a very difficult illness to cope with and I certainly could not do it with anything like their patience and care.
My husband has now been care at Watford House for a year. He is extremely well cared for (and he does have some complex needs) and loves being there!
He has to be changed quite often but knows that this is done by caring carers who get on with it without making any fuss and he goes back to whatever he was doing quite happily. No one has ever made him feel embarrassed or uncomfortable.
He loves all the carers and feels happy and content.
I am always praising Watford House becase of this, I know he is safe, happy and secure, which makes it much better for me.
