5Approach with care.
1But the company policy is to order only where goods were paid for in advance … and so I paid. I had no reason not to trust them and as a one time small business owner myself, I understood why this was their approach.
But when I went to collect the part and found it was wrong, they offered to get the correct item … but failed to tell me it may be a higher price. As the reader will guess, it was a higher price ,,, and it looked suspiciously different to my original part.
Unwilling to pay more money for a wrong item I asked for my original payment back. Mr Robertson, the owner I believe, refused point blank when I phoned. Not only that, he was arrogant and uncompromising to the extreme.
Eventually when I returned to the shop, insisted on a refund, the assistant said the refund must have a handling charge taken from it.
Not willing to wait around for Mr Robertson who was supposedly 'Out' I accepted the reduced refund and left only to find when I checked the money that it had been incorrectly calculated (in their favour, of course).
The moral of this story is … do not pay in advance for anything from this store. Indeed, in my opinion, avoid them like the plague.
It is a great shame. One tries to use local businesses in the face of the competition from the group stores … only to meet this kind of behaviour.
