The saga of the missing flue

In January 2024 we bought a Gazco Chesterfield 5 from this supplier. It was a replacement for a fire with a balanced flue and the pipe went through an outside wall. At no stage was it indicated that our full payment did not include a flue; what use is such a fire without a flue? When it arrived in mid-February we were assured that it was complete. Yet when our installer came in late March there was no flue. He was told that for £350 one could be collected - a round trip of and hour and a half. The fact that the instructions state 'This appliance must only be installed with the flue supplied' indicated to us that there was an error. However when we wrote asking for an explanation we were told it was our fault, that we hadn't specified what we needed. Somehow this overlooked that any good sales person would have told us about everything required. The customer care is appalling, and the service was at fault but we don't lie. Be very careful if you use this supplier or go elsewhere.

We had our third appliance fitted by W&H Supplies. The whole process from sales, where there was no pressure and they were very knowledgeable and helpful to the installation where the fitters were punctual, clean and very professional. Even paying the bill was a pleasurable experience. Many thanks

Gorgeous showroom

A stunning showroom. If you’re feeling chilly, cold and miserable, pop in here and the amazing selection of fires - fireplaces, wood burner stoves, electric and gas fires and stoves will not only cheer you up but you may end up buying one.
We bought a beautiful very plain stone fireplace and unusual gas fire from W&H about 10-11 years’ ago and so, after moving house, we had no hesitation in returning to find an electric stove effect fire. So helpful, we wanted a particular type that is super-realistic and they spent ages faffing around with the lights and components so we could see exactly what we were buying. They also had the one we chose in stock so we could take it away straightaway. This is an immensely large and well-stocked showroom. They have a little cafe there so if you are coming some distance to view a fireplace, it’s definitely worth the trip. They told us they were a family business, which shows in the way you’re treated there.

SHOCKING SERVICE!

In 2016 after visiting many gas-fire suppliers within a thirty-mile radius of our home in East Sussex, we finally purchased from W&H Supplies: based on their promise of good service. There were initial problems because the mantelpiece was faulty, which eventually were resolved. Each year the fire has been serviced by W&H Supplies at a cost of £150 to £180. This year the cost quoted was more than double! Reduced to £300 when I bitterly complained! The reason given for the massive increase was the distance from the showroom to our house – 27 miles, the same as it has always been. Other suppliers won't service what they haven't installed - which W&H must know. Beware before purchasing, or you may live to regret your purchase and be let down like us. Obviously, yearly increases are to be expected but not to the extent that the price is more than double!
