Guitar tuition tailored for the individual.

I have been a professional guitarist and teacher for over thirty years.

I worked originally in Rock and Pop and then studied Classical Guitar with the late Oliver Hunt, achieving a Performance Diploma from the London College of Music.

I then studied composing and arranging, also with Oliver Hunt.

After that I ran a professional covers style band for many years doing private and corporate functions and backing cabaret.

I teach all ages and abilities from beginner to advanced and am proud to have a 100% student pass rate in all exams (classical, rock school, GCSE and A LEVEL) with most achieving Merit or Distinction. This includes my work for Hertfordshire Music Service as well as my private teaching.

I also compose and arrange music for and direct the Hertfordshire Guitar Orchestra and the Guitar Project at Watford School of Music with whom I also perform.

The latter is open to any guitarist of intermediate standard or above and provides excellent performance experience.

I've been having lessons each week for many years, and have been a member of the Watford Guitar Project that Tom runs for almost the same length of time. Tom has an uncanny ability at once to spot details of inaccuracies in one's playing (e.g. using the wrong finger, using a barre unnecessarily, poor hand position). His teaching method is precise, and ground-rules for one's improvement are quickly clear and consistent. His versatility is such that he is as good for complete beginners as advanced players seeking to improve. He provides the grounding whereby you, the player, can go on to turn a practiced piece into 'Music.' As leader of the Project he is very committed and has reasonable expectations of members for whom he provides graded arrangements in the pieces we play. Our concerts have afforded much pleasure to audiences, and also to the project members. Do join....

Solo Guitar Lessons

I have been studying with Tom for almost two years utilising weekly, half-hour lessons.
As a mature student, I am very pleased with my progress and feel I have significantly improved in both technique and music reading skills.
Tom is patient and easily builds confidence. He understands the difficulties faced by students and uses his skills to analyse individual problems and provide really good solutions to overcome any difficulties.
His teaching methods and standards are very high and Tom ensures a feeling of calmness and confidence with a solid base for progression.

excellent and inspiring teacher

The quality of his tuition and variety of music is exceptional. The age varies from young teens to retirees. I like the fact that we explore all ranges of music from classic to pop and rock. As a band we have electric, bass and classical guitars and we each play different parts to the music. I started guitar as a child yet I know I have improved more in the past 3 years than all the past years put together and hope this group keeps growing.

Versatile and Talented Teacher

I have been playing classical guitar with Tom for over 20 years, having been a member of the Hertfordshire Guitar Orchestra and now the Guitar Project. Tom can play bass, classical, electric and is inclusive of all. It is great fun to be part of a group playing his arrangements of pieces from all genres.
