With a wealth of experience to draw on, we aim to combine good service and fine workmanship with value for money. Whether beginner or professional if you are looking to find the right instrument or bow; if yours is in need of repair or restoration; if you need strings or accessories - then we are able to help.

We always keep a fine selection of good quality violins, violas, 'cellos, basses and bows. With a comprehensive stock to choose from we cater for all players whatever their age, standard or budget. We are happy to take something in part exchange against a more expensive purchase or sell an instrument on commission subject to suitability.

Full workshop facilities are on site for adjustments, repairs, restorations and bow re-hairs and we offer prompt service on all the above.

I highly recommend Thwaites. They are professional and friendly.

I went to Thwaites to hire a cello as a gift for someone who has always wanted to learn to play the cello.
From my first phone call to enquire about the rental, to when I went back to the store to return it, Thwaites were very knowledgeable and professional, answering all my questions in a friendly manner.
They offer free maintenance of the instrument you are renting, string replacement etc, which, although I did not need to use, was a very reassuring and attractive service.
The rental cost is good value for money I believe and is paid on a monthly basis; the contract can be cancelled at any time. Thwaites were very prompt at cancelling my direct debit and refunding me the money for the remainder of days of the month after returning the cello; it was all done within a matter of days.
I highly recommend Thwaites and would not hesitate to use them again in the future.
