A slice of history complete with ghosts
4
Affectionately known eponymously as "Frank's" to the regulars, this particular irrepressible landlord has been in the pub for well over 20 years (when it was more popularly named The Anglers Arms for over 300 years)and has built the pub up into a welcoming, busy and thriving concern. This place reeks of history, but not in a fusty or anachronistic way but in a way that is reverential to the past. The woodwork and beams are in immaculate condition, the brasses are so spotless that a Sargeant Major would weep tears of joy, as is the bar.
There are well kept ales on the bar - the ubiquitous "John Smiths" but also always a guest beer as well. They even manage to rustle up lunchtime snacks from a miniscule galley kitchen to help soak up the alcohol.
Oh yes and there's the ghosts...lots of them. Derek Acorah names "The Snickleway" as one of Britain's 100 Scariest Places to Visit in his book and although Frank is the ultimate sceptic he'll talk openly and dispassionately about those from the other side that freely roam his hostelry after the doors close - up and down stairs, in the cellar etc... The old man in the corner even makes the occasional appearance only being recognised as not earthly when people comment about him to barstaff to look around to find he's literally disappeared...!!
