A Friendly Local Pub Even If You Are Not A Local

I have visited the Ship Inn numerous times over the last four years. The Ship Inn changed Tenants around October 2017.
The Ship Inn is a small pub with friendly staff, a welcoming atmosphere and is dog-friendly.
Food is simple pub grub, with reasonable portion sizes at very reasonable prices.
The Ship Inn only has a small kitchen so long waits for food can be expected at peak season/times.
There is normally a choice of around four real ales and three lagers, several gins as well as the usual spirits.

service without a smile

My wife and I went to this particular pub with our two chilldren for a bar meal, we didn't even get through the door when the owner leapt off his bar stool and literally frog marched us back out of the pub acting very aggressive stateing no pushchairs allowed and to take note of the sign upon the wall which was so tiny he had to point it out to us, we were told if we required food we,d have to sit outside( it was raining at the time). To our annoyannce and embarrasment which was witnessed by other customers we had one drink then left. If you have small children I urge you to avoid this place, we were clearly not welcome nor were our children there are much better places to eat in Coniston, we certainly were not going to spend £40 or £50 in an environment that clearly doesn't welcome families, the gentleman did not even give us the option to put the pushchair down.
