Dreadful outdated institution
A dumping ground for miserably sad patients who have mainly been 'rendered' from their home areas, often 100's of miles from their friends and family. It is used by the NHS when there are no local beds available. This institution of course keeps many patients incarcerated for far longer than necessary - why wouldn't it? The patients are its bread and butter. This outdated excuse for a hospital is far worse than any NHS psychiatric hospital that I have experienced. It is run along the lines of a prison. For example, smoking leave is withdrawn for days at a time as a punishment for any minor perceived misdemeanour (like smoking in the extensive grounds, which is banned by the hospital). Staff levels are too low with too many agency nurses being used at weekends and holidays. The turnover of consultants is alarmingly high, leaving senior ward nurses with far too much power. There is an atmosphere of fear amongst patients, who are fearful of priveleges being withdrawn. Shameful.
