Reviews

Overpriced, very poor quality food- a rip off!

1
Terrible food - hot roast beef sandwich was one slice of cold grey looking beef sandwiched between a dry baguette. The gravy tasted like dishwater - a total rip off for £8.95.

They charge premium pub prices for very sub standard food. Highly disappointed and feel completely ripped off.

I concur with Wadds’ observations below. High priced, low grade food. Food is available all day, as a result, evening meals appear to have been kept warm since the morning. Served in an instant but small portions that are dry and shrivelled.
They advertise ‘Fresh Home Cooked Food’ but instant gravy and frozen Yorkshire Puddings show the ads are really just a con. There is better quality food to be found locally and there is certainly cheaper nosh to be had.
The pub itself is OK, but nothing more. It is very clean and tidy and the beer is reasonable. Wine is available by the glass or bottle, half decent but not cheap.
It’s the sort of place to drop in for a quick drink when travelling from A to B... but then leave. It does not have the atmosphere of a local nor does the quality of the food served qualify it to be an eatery.
I endorse Wadds doubts of the earlier reviews. One off entries by each submitter, that do not match my experiences; made me think the reviews were manufactured.

Well I don't know which pub the other 4 reviewers went to but my experience was not good. I always order safely when I try somewhere new to build up confidence in the chef before paying for the expensive items on the menu. Steak & ale pie. What can go wrong. Dried up must have been stood in the open air for 2 days at least. Packet gravy mix. Home cooked chips maybe but cold and had not been peeled properly actually quite dirty. Sent meal back. Received a bit of a feeble apology and a drink on the house which I declined. The excuse was they had an agency chef in. MY ADVICE "USE A DIFFERENT AGENCY".

What a place, been going here since the new landloard tookover early last year, clean, friendly, good all round pub and restaurant with a beautiful rear beer garden overlooking the river, which has just recently been extended with a new lawn and lovely new tables.... Peace and quiet while you feed the swans!
As for inside, nice decor, no loud music, quiet snug areas, with a little area a bit livelier area to watch TV and have a giggle with the friendly locals.
The restaurant has an improving growing menu, all home cooked food which can be washed down with a choice from the extensive wine menu, or one of a few well kept guest ales.
Service, all young friendly people ralied around by the friendliest landloard in the area (he is a bit bonkers), but cares about his customers!
