Theatre We have 2 small animal operating theatres, using 'Gold Standard' modern anaesthetic drugs, techniques and monitoring facilities. Hospital We have excellent, air-conditioned and comfortable hospital facilities. Our patients are cared for by Qualified RVNs (Registered Veterinary Nurses)
All our appointments are 15 minutes long to address all our clients needs and concerns. We never double book, and new clients and new pets are always offered 30 minute (double) appointments and no extra cost.
We provide a welcoming and caring environment for you and your pet to visit in times of sickness and in health. We are strong believers in treating the whole animal not just the medical condition and we have very high standards of clinical care. You will always find a friendly face here.
A personal service with continuity of care is very important to us, which is why we introduced our One-Pet-One-Vet policy, whereby we register you with one vet and, where practicable, your pet sees the same vet at each visit for continuity of care (except for emergencies or where your vet is absent)
All our pet food and accessories are BELOW the recommended retail price and what's more you can place and pay for your order safely and securely at your convenience and simply collect your purchases from our clinic, saving delivery charges.
Our Pet Health Club is a fantastic way to spread the cost of preventative health care. It is a payment scheme with affordable monthly installments for annual vaccinations, flea and worming treatments, that pet insurance does not cover, and receive other discounts too on pet food, other services etc
In our in-house laboratory our highly trained nursing team carry out urinalysis, run tests on blood samples and perform microscopy. Often results can be produced in minutes. We also have access to top class external laboratories for all procedures requiring specialist equipment and personnel.
We are for not only dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters, but also for more exotic pets such as lizards, snakes, tortoises. If you have an exotic pet just give us a call.
Our nurses offer one to one clinics, where you can bring your pet to discuss your concerns with them. They will give advice on worming, flea treatments, nutrition, weight, dental care, etc. They also carry out post-op checks, grooming & de-matting, rabbit care, nail clipping and more. Call today.

Have been a client of The Mewes since it first opened 18 years ago. All the staff are fantastic and the care and attention given is second to none. They gave wonderful help to our family pets when ill and would, and do, recommend them to all!!

Dear gemz100,

I would personally like to apologise you felt our service was unprofessional and disorganised. My team are excellent at what they do, and despite being a busy practice we're always devoted to animal care and ensuring our clients enter a welcoming, warm and friendly practice.

I would also like to say sorry that you felt your experience at our practice was focussed on cost. Please note that the cost of care at our practice merely reflects the costs of veterinary medicine today.

It is also saddening to hear you felt my team have tried to you make you purchase products and additional treatments that weren’t necessary, by using fear tactics. I agree, this type of behaviour is completely unacceptable, and I am positive this has and does not happen here.

It is not in our interest to ever recommend unnecessary surgical procedures because, not only is it unethical, but it’s also illegal. When a veterinary surgeon becomes qualified, they each take an oath whereby they vow to always ‘ensure the welfare of animals committed to their care.’

Overall it is distressing to hear such a negative review because I have hundreds of clients who are more than happy with the service and animal care we provide.

If you would like to discuss your experience at our practice any further, please email your mobile number to [email protected] and I will personally give you a ring so we can resolve this issue.

Kind regards

Julia Mewes

Incompetent and rude

1
I was with this practice for two years and over that time I had experienced nothing but a disappointing and an all-round unprofessional service from them. Unorganized reception staff and a particularly rude and pushy vet that constantly tried to make me have procedures or buy things for my pets by trying to instill fear that something wrong with your pet when there isn't, is diabolical! Just to make money! This vet has been very wrong about health problems with a pet of mine in the past which did not help my pet at the time. I have since moved practices. Avoid!
