Business overview

The Lion Inn on remote Blakey Ridge is a 16th Century freehouse owned and run by the Crossland family since 1980. Located at the highest point of the North York Moors National Park, it stands at an elevation of 1,325 feet offering breathtaking views over the valleys of Rosedale and Farndale.

Open fires burn all day and evening in the ancient fireplaces. The original low beamed ceilings add to the friendly atmosphere of the Inn.

The bar is well known for its good selection of quality real ales which include Black Sheep Best Bitter, Theakston's Best Bitter, our award winning Old Peculier, Copper Dragon's Golden Pippin, Thwaites Wainwright Bitter and a range of regularly changing guest ales. An extensive menu is offered including special vegetarian dishes, children's meals and daily Chef's Specials - served all day, every day from 12 noon until 10pm.

Reviews

Awful

1
A very bad family experience! The drinks ordered were wrong. The mussels in white wine was like eating custard! The fillet steak ordered was fatty and un eatable. And more seriously... My husband choked on his fatty steak. No member of staff made themselves known as a first aider! My husband was very poorly and needed to leave the restaurant. We could not finish our meals and were very upset. We were still expected to pay the full bill. We will never return too this pub, even though we have eaten many times there.. Very disappointed.

Isolated pub

Often cut off in bad weather, this isloated little pub is great for eating and drinking, it is located handily for anyone doing the coast to coast walk and indeed walkers make up a high percentage of its customers. The food is wholesome and filling and there is an excellent selection of hand pulled beers for those who like their real ale.
