I just wanted to say thank you very much for all your help in arranging our celebration. We all had a wonderful time and I’m sure we’ll be back again in the not too distant future.

I don't think so

In January, for a 'special night out', I was taken to the Jazz Club to dine and 'groove'. We arrived a little early and had to wait at the bar, even though most of the tables were free. Our starter, soup, arrived at the table very promptly and was pleasant but not exceptional. Our main-course was served almost as soon as our soup bowls were cleared and looked ok, but we soon realised that the 'chef' might not be on top form that night. The food was not as good as we'd anticipated; it was edible but not cooked and served as well as we have at home!
Because we had eaten our meal rather quickly, we had to wait what for what seemed like an hour for the entertainment to start, so we amused ourselves by watching other diners' experiences, noting that their food looked no more exciting than ours. During this time the club had become very busy and a bit too noisy to be able to chat and I would have loved to have had a more comfortable chair!
We actually left the club early and went to the Hotel bar (and noticed that their restaurant looked very good). I might give it another try one day especially if I hear that they have employed a chef, but will book the table for as late as possible so that I can dine and 'groove', not dine and get 'bored and jolly uncomfortable'.

One of the best nights out in my life
5
Couple of weeks ago, five of my friends and I went out for a meal at The Jazz Cafe in Reading. This was one of the best nights out we've ever had! On our way in we were welcomed by a very friendly man and escorted to the bar area where we were served immediately by a professional barman. A few minutes later a lady from the staff came and introduced herself and explained that we will be seated shortly! In less than 5 minutes a waitress came and showed us our table, which we found out we could use for the whole night! The food was lovely! We all had starters which were tasteful and well presented, the main meals were even better - we had chicken dish, steak and vegetarian dish and all of them were well cooked, well presented with plenty of vegetables. One of us had a portion of cheese and biscuits which was enough to share between two of us! We also had couple of bottles of a very good wine and a few after dinner drinks! The waitress was friendly and helpfull! The music was great - the band was good fun so was the DJ. We had fantastic time, one of the best nights out!We highly recommend The Jazz Cafe!

Very disappointing

The Jazz Club is a small live music bar situated in the Madejski stadium complex in Reading. For our main courses, my wife ordered a roasted pepper tart topped with mozzarella cheese and I ordered a filet steak cooked very rare. When the food arrived, my steak was perched on mashed potato and surrounded with gravy. I cut into the steak and it was very dark inside but the light was poor, so I tasted it and it was cold and raw. I tasted the mash, it was luke-warm and watery. I called the waitress and explained the meal was cold, and she then told me if I order a very rare steak, it will be cold. My fault, apparently. I explained how it should be cooked and served and was told that they don’t do it that way. The steak was then taken away and some time later returned having been cooked more! I complained the steak was now overdone. The manager was then called and told me it was the light in the club. I agreed to eat it because I was fed up by this time and just wanted to be left in peace. When I attempted to eat it I found it tough and tasteless. The mash was still watery and cold. I therefore ate the new potatoes and vegetables that accompanied the meals, and these were very well cooked and came served in hot dishes. During all this time, no one had asked about my wife’s meal. It was bland and oily, and the cheese was like rubber on the surface of the tart. Still, we had the live music to look forward to and the wine we ordered with the meal was very good. The band was Madison Heights, a nine piece soul band. Unfortunately, we felt they were mediocre, so we decided to leave early. On paying the bill I queried the total because my meal was not satisfactory and was given a £2 discount on a £105 bill!
