Really Gone Downhill.

The older staff are really unpleasant and just look like they don't want to be there. The cutlery at our table was unclean. We ordered nachos and "homemade pate" for a starter, The nachos were literally just a small bag of cool original Doritos and the pate came with what looked like half a slice of toast, quartered. Next we ordered a 20oz mixed grill which was in fact around 10oz, when we complained the manager came over to our table and stood over us, trying to intimidate us into revoking our complaint, from this point we were made to feel uncomfortable in the restaurant with the boss hovering around. There was a bowl of sauces at our table in which they had all been left in the sun, some of them were months out of date, and the ones in date still looked off and tasted even worse, once we complained about this they took the out of date packaging an ran out the back with it. Manager really needs to go to the Half Moon at Easington to experience some real food and service.

Appalling Service !!

To be honest if the food is good you can cope with a little bit of rudeness. Been going to the poachers pocket for many years and the service there is not great but the food is amazing. The Blue House in Shotton has the worst bar and waiting on staff I have ever come across. To make matters worse the food is also inadequate. We had a birthday party booked but this was totally ruined by rude staff with no customer service at all. I would not revisit this pub ever. The staff working in the blue house need customer care training as a matter of urgency and the menu leaves a lot to be desired in 2015!!

Nice Place

We like to visit different pubs/eateries once per week and it was the turn of The Blue House for us this week. On entering the restuarant it looked pleasant, tidy and reasonably up to date with the decor. I'm used to getting my seat, menu and ordering a drink from the waitress as a starter to my meal but unfortunately I had to get settled into my seat to be told I had to go through to the bar to get my drinks. Luckily there was no other customers at the bar but unluckily there was no one serving either! After what seemed like ages, a lady appeared and served our drinks which I had to take back to the restuarant. That wasn't a good sign for me. The people serving the meals didn't seem too friendly towards us at first but appeared friendly to locals/regulars. They were fine towards us nearing the end of our meal though so maybe they were just having an off day. The food itself was lovely, with generous portions. All in all, taking into account the service and friendliness accompanying the meal, I could only rate the experience as average compared to the majority of places I've visited of late. If I was marking on food alone, this pub would easily get top marks. We do revisit places we've been to now and again but only those places offering great food and great service so unfortunately The Blue House falls short on the service in our opinion and won't be revisited by us anytime soon. A pity because the food is great.

Came with the Family

The food at the Blue House in Shotton is great - nice big portions. I had the V lasagne very good home cooked food.
My only criticism would be the service. The lady serving on the bar was very rude to me she did not acknowledge my presence and did not smile once. I only wanted to a glass and I said excuse me would you mind just passing me a glass. She ignored me and made me wait until she served everyone else. When it came to my turn she still ignored me until I said again would you mind passing me a glass. It was as if I was invisible.
It’s a very intimate venue and I think is the staff smiled more and made you feel more welcome it would be a lot more fun to visit.
