Business overview

I'm a professional counsellor in Exeter. Counselling can be a life changing experience. Things can change. If you need to talk then please get in touch. My door is open.

My name is Sue and I have been a counsellor in Exeter for six years, having completed an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling. I've worked mostly with the NHS Depression & Anxiety Service and so specialise in these areas as well as the issues that trigger these feelings. Prior to this I worked in bereavement and LGBT services.

I absolutely love working as a counsellor and feel truly privileged when people share their lives with me. Having undergone therapy myself during training and since to ensure my own personal development continues, I know first-hand what a challenging but rewarding process counselling can be.

Modern life can be hectic and stressful even without other contributing factors such as a big life change. It can be easy to forget to take care of our mental wellbeing until we start to feel or see the ‘cracks’. The analogy of the home can be a useful one in counselling. Having solid foundations is the first step. Counselling can help to unpack problems, repack them in a different way, let go of things, build solid foundations, attend to ‘the cracks’ and help to repair and rebuild with the help of another.

My aim in working with clients is to provide an environment in which you feel safe to share your thoughts and feelings, however difficult they may be. I am non-judgemental, honest (‘congruent’ in counsellor-speak) and empathetic. I am a very warm and open person and the fact that I genuinely care about people always comes across.

The relationship we develop can help you learn and reflect about your relationships outside of therapy including your relationship with yourself. It is important therefore that I am honest with you and that you feel able to trust and be real with me too. As with any relationship, this can bring challenges, but it is through challenges that we can grow as people, learn about ourselves and others, have healthier relationships with ourselves and others, work through problems and lessen our pain or distress.
