Scott Hammond offers friendly, professional tuition at reasonable rates. He has gained a Graduate Diploma with honours (degree equivalent) in Jazz Studies at the City of Leeds College of Music and has over 25 years teaching experience, including at QEH, Millfield and Wells Cathedral School.

Scott also works as a freelance drummer. Having played with Jethro Tull internationally for 10 years and many different bands across the country, he has gained experience in a wide range of music. Scott has also worked with top New York alto saxophonist Herb Geller and London’s finest jazz names: Dave O’Higgins, Bobby Wellins, Don Weller and Alan Barnes. He has also performed many times on TV and Radio both in the UK and internationally.

Lessons are £30 per hour session (shorter lessons available for younger children) in the BS9 area and are within easy reach of Clifton, Redland, Cotham and Stoke Bishop.

Scott is an absolutely brilliant drum teacher!

Scott is an absolutely brilliant drum teacher! I would highly recommend lessons both on Zoom and face-to-face. In the lessons he covers a wide range of grooves and techniques along with preparing pieces for exams. He also provides additional WhatsApp support with videos of how to play the trickier bars and interesting information about famous drummers and techniques. My son Peter (age 12) has recently passed his Grade 6 with merit with RockSchool thanks to Scott’s help.

Awesome Drum Lessons with Scott

Loving drum lessons with Scott. He’s very patient and encouraging. Scott’s has put a lot of COVID measures in place to make sure everyone feels comfortable when learning. Booking twice a week at the moment because it’s such good fun.

Scott has taught my daughter for around 5 years now. She loves her lessons with him, she says Scott is patient and relaxed and she loves the music they work on. Scott is happy to help her with exam material or stuff that she’s playing in her groups and I always see an improvement after lessons - I’d recommend him to anyone who wants to learn.

Inspiring lessons on Zoom

I've had 4 different drum teachers over the years and Scott has been the most inspiring, encouraging and reliable. Lessons have been online using Zoom (on my iphone) and it worked well.

Best Drum Teacher in Bristol

My first lesson with Scott was about fifteen years ago. We started off working on a simple back beat, before progressing quickly to 'the ten grooves'. As a new drummer this means that you get the basics down really quickly, and can actually start playing along with your own music. Scott's takes the 'simple to complex' approach, and when we moved onto 'ten more grooves', I really started to feel like a proper drummer.

Scott taught me how to read music, and again the simple to complex approach made this achievable and fun. Within the first year I had gained a distinction at grade three, largely due to Scott's enthusiasm and belief that I could do it.

After a bit of a break (family and kids) I am back learning with Scott, and he has seamlessly put me back on track. Scott is really patient as a teacher who can empathise with being a learner and finding musical concepts challenging.

Most of all, he is simply a great teacher who makes learning fun.

Highly recommended.
