Business overview

Royal Garden opened its doors on 13th November 1990 with a huge party, including a 30ft Chinese fire cracker and a lion dance; it certainly entered with a big bang! It has remained under the same management since the opening and converted what was originally an Italian Trattoria into a truly successful Chinese restaurant.

This success is owed to the Cheung family; from beginning and still to the present day it is run by a husband and wife team, Lin and Lawrence. They have built up a loyal clientele and the restaurant has earned itself the reputation of being ‘the meeting place for friends’.

Royal Garden have even had the pleasure to serve a number of celebrities in the past and present, some of which include: Ian Wright, Dougie Freedman, Rugby 7’s All Blacks, Ken Doherty, John Parrot, Ronnie Corbett, Boney M, Frank Bruno, the ‘Incredible Hulk’ Lou Ferrigno, Star War’s R2D2 and 3CPO.e Royal Garden.

HAPPY DAYS!!!

We've been regulars at the Royal Garden for over 25 years. Lawrence, Lin and their entire team are second to none, the cuisine is sensational. Have rolled out in the early hours of many a Sunday morning:-)

Bad experience

1
This is the worst Chinese I have ever had. Under cooked ribs bland tasting noodles & soggy batter around chicken & prawn balls. Would definitely not recommend. Much better takeaways in the area to try than this one.

Avoid at all costs

1
Absolutely terrible experience after what must be a very recent change in management. We had been going here for years and celebrated many family celebrations here. But after staff which were aggressive and swore at us - I would avoid at all costs! Place should be closed down

Amazing place

The best place for all Chinese food lovers. The restaurant is very well furnished and beautifully decorated. The food is also good and slightly more reasonable priced compared to the other Chinese restaurants in Croydon.
If you manage to book a table near the windows, you are a real lucky man - the view of the hills is truly fantastic.

The worst Chinese I have been to in years! I was charged the same price for take away as eating in the restaurant. Food had obviously been made with the cheapest vegetables and meat. There was no love put into this food. My king prawn and cashew nuts looked like a tray of dog food! I would NEVER eat here agsin
