Business overview

Root One Garden Centre - Truly Local. Truly Independent. Truly Scrumptious!

Root One is a privately-owned independent Garden Centre and member of the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA). Situated on a busy road running between Wallingford and Didcot, it is easily accessible, has ample free parking, and enjoys outstanding views to the Chilterns.

Established in June 2001, the site has benefited from a substantial and sustained investment programme and the business has steadily grown into the local attraction it has now become.

2004 saw the opening of a new plant area and the establishment of our now thriving Café. This has a really friendly feel to it with many regulars returning time and time again to meet friends and have a coffee, read the paper, and perhaps indulge in our best selling All Day Breakfast!

Nice morning out in the garden centre followed by lunch

I have bought lots of unusual shrubs and plants, all looking very good in my garden, if you see something then don't leave it until next visit or it will be gone. Prices are reasonable and good value, they are all doing well, yes they are sometimes growing on in bigger pots (there is a notice saying so), better that way than a root bound plant you get in other garden centres. There was a lovely rose, my daughter from Reading bought one as well, we go regularly as a morning out with a nice lunch. Brussels sprouts still going well really good crop, would recommend the veg plants, good quality.

poor quality plants sold at high prices

You need to check what you buy from here.

Don't ssume that if you buy a plant in a big pot that the pot is full of roots. I spent £26 on two 18" high plants which I found had been intensively raised and then transplated into a large pot just before being sold..

The root ball was so small that it was only really able to support something half the size. What was worse was the attitude from the owner who basically accused me of trying to return these plants to him when i hadn't bought them there!
