Excellent

Love coming here always a good atmosphere, level of service and food is excellent for a country pub. Dog friendly and a beer garden perfect for the summer.

In my experience haven't been able to fault the Red Lion.

Worst pub experience

1
Just had one of the worst experiences in a pub that I can ever remember. Booked over a week ago and arrived at 12.30 order not taken for 15 minutes . Still no food after 1 hour then were told order had not gone through to the kitchen, no apologies. Finally still no food after another 30 minutes so decided to get up and leave . Lady in charge did not seem to understand how unacceptable this was. Would under no circumstances recommend this establishment .

Food ok

If you are looking for a pub with a friendly atmosphere - this isn't the pub for you. The service was indifferent and we felt as they were doing us a favour by serving us. Although we had a booked table for 1330 when we sat down we were told that we should hurry to order because the kitchen wanted to close! Strange, because we had to wait ages for our main course. However, the three of us agreed that the food was good, except that the French onion soup 'gratinée' did not have a gratinée!

Chance visit

Stopped at the Red Lion, on the way back from a long day out in Bath, just looking for somewhere to have a meal. There was a friendly welcome into what was a small village pub, no loud music but just the hum of people chatting. At first glance there did not seem to be a large choice to choose from on the mains menu, one of us just wanted a salad. having chosen we were very impressed with the presentation of the food when it arrived, and even more impressed with the taste and flavour. Even my sons, 13 & 10, said how good it was, where food is normally a way of fuelling themselves! They were the only ones who had room for dessert, although they were to share it with us! Yet again looks and flavour were fantastic. This was top end pub food, feeling you are getting something special, and at very reasonable prices, but in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. We ate in the bar area and not the restaurant, our choice, and we did not see the beer garden, so cannot comment on these. We left the Red Lion pleasantly full and would recommend it to anyone who was looking for something more than just pub food.
