Oh to be a customer

I met my first Volkswagen salesman here - Phil and he was brilliant. He wanted to sell me a car and I wanted to buy one. He investigated ways to get me the car I wanted at a price that was reasonable - and I was so tempted - but the colours available weren't what I wanted.

I returned a few weeks later to find Phil gone. The new salesman assured me that the offers Phil found were not available - he didn't have time to query whether the cars were available but he was interested in selling things at list price. I was less than impressed.

I went to Durham today - completely different. Just like the first salesman. They wanted to deal and I wanted to deal with them. But I couldn't really as I had put a deposit down for a car (not signed contracts just paid the deposit). Had I visited Durham i would have my new car any day now. my advice isn't to ignore the firm, just to be aware that if you want a deal at a reasonable price you should also visit their Durham Branch.

i arrive at pulman at 8am(left at 5pm tho), the girl who greeted me on arrival was lovely and polite. I took my car in to get it repair and MOT. i had 2 lights on, on the panel and needed that sorted to pass the MOT. At 9am they’ve told me they couldn’t find the issue so they would need to run a second hour to find out. After the second hour, apart from the lights on the panel they come up with others issues. Although they discovered all of them, they couldn’t get me a quote for the repairs. (weird) So i suggest to do the MOT and try to give me a realistic quote for all the repairs. They said they couldn’t but would expect to be around £2000. I’ve spent whole morning till around 1pm trying to sort this out and no success. The interesting thing is on halfords the MOT only failed because of those 2lights on the panel. I ended up buying a new car. I spoke to salesman Jack all seemed to be cool. we discuss prices, servicing, MOT’s. Mostly of dealers out their do offer a year’s insurance free they don’t. So we verbally agreed first year servicing free. For the entire week after the purchase VW call you 2-3 times; pulman another 2-3 times all this for surveys and enquires if you satisfy and the sales process. Basically don’t answer anything you can’t when you haven’t had enough time to try your new car. so you giving them false answers and expectations. After a month or so, pulman call me to discuss a servicing plan, when i found out i actually don’t have the first year free servicing. I’ve tried to contact Jack, who said we haven’t agreed that. following his manage Gavin saying they actually don’t offer a free servicing at all. Additionally Gavin who actually finished the sale’s process said we haven’t discussed anything. Of course not he only gave me the paper work to sign nothing else was discussed between us. I’ve complaint to the VW website all they trying to do was to listening to me and the retailers. However they can’t force them to do what they don’t want unless was writing on the paper work. So bear in mind everything you do agree verbally make them write it down for your records. Also make sure the interest rates displayed next to the car is the same as on your paper work, because mine was 0.6% higher.
