Business overview

Valuing your subjective experience, thought processes and emotional well-being to help you to make the changes to create a more fulfilling life.

Looking after your mental health is a priority, don’t let feelings of anxiety and depression have a negative impact on your relationships, work opportunities and overall emotional well-being. Unhelpful coping strategies, thought patterns and maladaptive beliefs can lead to self-destructive behaviours which can have a significant impact on your day to day functioning.

Don’t let unwanted past experiences, relationship difficulties and outdated self-perceptions cloud your here and now interactions. By working through and identifying unhelpful patterns of coping, relating and functioning you can make the changes in your life.

Your past experiences can influence the way you make sense of your world and relationships. The past can leave you with difficult unwanted memories and feelings which you would rather push away and forget. This can have a significant impact on how you cope with stress, adversity and emotionally difficulties.

However, your past does not define who you are now. Don’t let unwanted memories, traumatic events, and outdated relational patterns hold you back. Make changes in the here and now, recognise your blind spots and find more helpful and adaptive coping strategies.

Approach:

As a psychologist, I have trained in both cognitive and psychodynamic models of psychotherapy. I have worked across a wide range of mental health problems. I am able to draw on a range of theoretical orientations, evidence-based practices, and my extensive clinical experience to tailor therapy to meet your individual needs.

My work is goal orientated and focused on helping you to make changes in your life for the better. I will help you to understand how your problems may have developed and how they are maintained. I take a direct and down to earth approach with therapy to help you move forward by revising unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving.

Don’t be held back, by outdated viewpoints, beliefs and misconceptions, act now!

The best supervisor i've had

5
Whilst in my second year of my doctorate in Counselling Psychology I started a placement within the NHS integrated therapy service. Having never practised in a CAT modality I was very nervous to start. Carl was my supervisor for which I attended weekly supervision. Carl not only taught me the CAT modality in a informative and detailed manner, he also sparked my interest to continue to train within the CAT model.
I have been practising for 4 years in private and NHS setting and I can honestly say he is the best supervisor I have had. He is very relatable and you feel comfortable to ask him questions. Carl is very knowledgeable in his field which means you get guidance, information and support at all times, not only clinically but with professional development. Carls supervision style really helped me conceptualise and formulate the clients problems in a way I have never done before. The skills Carl has taught me informs my practise to this day and I cant recommend him enough.

An Outstanding Therapist, Highly Recommended

5
I consulted Carl after my issues with anxiety got out of control. Over a course of 16 sessions we transformed my way of thinking leaving me happier, more emotionally stable, and able to engage with those around me in a more meaningful way. Throughout the process I felt complete confidence in Carl’s approach and expertise. Carl’s knowledge and professionalism, as well as his kindness and empathy, meant that even difficult conversations felt safe. At all points I felt my difficulties were taken seriously and treated with respect. I couldn’t have imagined the difference 16 weeks would make and I now have strategies for managing which mean I’m going forward with confidence I haven’t felt in years. Highly recommended.

Great supervision experience

Carl has been an incredible supervisor and a great mentor throughout he biggest part of my doctoral training. Very supportive, with in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge in relational therapeutic models, such as CAT.

Excellent supervision for qualified psychologists

5
While on doctoral training I was lucky enough to be on placement applying Cognitive Analytic Therapy under Carl’s supervision for a year. Carl taught the CAT protocol simply and clearly but also showed how this approach could be used to understand and conceptualise any client’s difficulties – extremely useful techniques I have used ever since.
Having now qualified and beginning private work alongside the NHS, Carl is the first person I sought out as a supervisor even though CAT is not the primary modality I use. His insight and experience gained from many years working at a senior level in secondary care NHS services means that there is very little he doesn’t know about working with clients' emotions, behaviours and relational patterns and he wastes little time in cutting through to the essence of the problem. Furthermore, he is also able to offer guidance with relation to NHS career development and progression if needed. I would unreservedly recommend Carl as a clinical supervisor.

Professional advice

5
I am a trainee counselling psychologist in my final year, and I I recently consulted Carl on a one-off professional matter. What drew me to him was his extensive knowledge across various therapeutic modalities and his experience in a range of NHS services. I was very impressed at how responsive and on the ball he was. His many years of experience made his advice particularly insightful, and I would absolutely consult him again in the future.
