What is an EPC?

An Energy Performance Certificate, otherwise known as an EPC, provides an energy rating for a home and is required on all properties that are marketed for sale or to let. The EPC outlines some ideas which would help to improve the building’s energy performance. Implementing these can lead to lowering the cost of energy bills, reduced carbon deposits and can make homes more attractive to potential buyers or tenants.

The Process

The process of issuing an EPC requires an inspection of the property and its relevant fittings (heating, lighting and insulation, for example). The property dimensions are measured to produce a floor plan which illustrates heat loss from the property. Once the information on these elements have been collected the EPC is produced using Government-approved software. To conclude the inspection, our Domestic Energy Assessor can discuss with the occupant/home owner to discuss the potential improvements that would reduce the cost of energy bills for the household and which suit their requirements.
