I love this place. The food was amazing and the staff couldn't be more friendly. Will definitely be back

England is somehow famous for fish and chips. I say somehow because to me, 95% of all the fish and chip joints I've sampled in the UK have served up soggy, over battered fish and french fries.

It seems to get decent fish and chips you need to go to a proper sit down restaurant, and that just feels a little bit weird to me. It's meant to be easy, fast, comfort food. That doesn't mean it can't be amazing, but it seems to be beyond most places.

So, Pier 1, the fourth business in five years to move into this address, walks a very tidy line for me. You can sit down and have a nice seafood meal there, or you can order fish and chips over the counter and wander up to eat them by the canal. Upwind of it if you can manage.

The batter on the fish was crisp and not overpowering at all and the chips were chunky with a crisp outside and a nice fluffy middle. It was more expensive than a take away joint, but the quality means I'll happily pay that bit more again to get something I actually enjoy and don't feel like throwing up as soon as I've finished it!
