BETTER THAN EVER

Having been a regular of Oscars for many years this was my first visit to York for a long while and my first visit to the new site. I loved it.It had the same feel as the original site but the food operation seemed a little slicker with the staff really on the ball,I opted for the Parisian platter and hubby chose a Yorkshire Sirloin.He declared his steak the best ever.Daughter and new boyfriend shared the Nachos and just about managed to polish them off.We had a great time and resolved to visit more often.

Oscar's Wine Bar

Food was pricey for a burger. The menu was disappointing. Seating was cramped. Cant be sure if it was this place but some of our party too had stomach upset after dining here. The waitress was very friendly and sevice was good. The surroundings were pleasant. There are better places to eat.

Worst night EVER

1
Recently returned to Oscar's after a year or two and sadly I can no longer say one good thing about it! I may as well just list the bad points:

- Ignored when we came in (waitress clocked us and ignored us);
- Had to wait 20mins to be seated, other people were prioritised over us;
- Food selection is very poor (if you don't want a burger);
- Staff are NOT friendly;
- Food quality is poor;
- Music is DEAFENING! (we were shouting);
- When we asked for the music to be turned down we were ignored (but told they would do it - yeah, right);
- Food is expensive;
- When we complained our comments were ignored (we had to shout them to be heard!) and met with abuse;
- Both myself and my partner suffered from food poisoning shortly afterwards;

I would never return here. There are so many lovely restaurants in York, don't waste your time with this one!

Plenty of choice

The area known as the quarter in York was recomended to us by a waiter in our hotel.We chose this place as it had a queue outside.The wait wasn't too long and once sat down the service was excellent.I was amazed at the choice on the menu.I opted for a Parisian platter which was a selection of very fresh deli ingredients including proscuttio,mature brie,chicken parfait,rustic bread and the nicest olives I have tasted.In contrast to my choice my partner chose a sirloin steak cooked perfectly rare and served with a generous portion of fries,salad and mushrooms.We shared a handmade cheesecake and enjoyed a really nice black coffee each.The coffee was really nice.So often coffe can be a real let down after a nice meal.They had an offer on St veran wine which was an unbelievable £10.00 per bottle.Thats what I pay at our local off licence.Very good value.

A bit of hype?

2
Reading through the reviews ... I wonder if some emanate from the marketing branch (OK too grand - those involved in the business). The place is OK but not as great as some reviews would have it. Food is cheapish in a pile em high kind of way. Quality is missing - and if you don't fancy a burger there is not much to choose. Everything feels mass frozen and fried up - but that makes it cheap(ish). Big Mac might be better these days (but not been there for a while).
