Maxwell's was one of the first American restaurants to be established in London and has a lively, upbeat atmosphere with friendly staff serving large portions of food including chunky chips, shrimp caesar salad and imported prime beef burgers at affordable prices. As well as this, they serve traditional cocktails including the original Maxwell's 'Silver Hammer' and a selection of wines and beers for you to enjoy along with your meal. This branch can cater for private parties of up to 60 guests upon request. Seating on the pavement is provided, weather permitting.

The food however was fine. I enjoyed my fish cakes and my friend tucked into her plate of ribs with enthusiasm. Portions were good, so some of the latter were left behind. We chose both from the “lunch express” menu, which offers one course for £6.95, two for £9.95 or three for £12.95 and is available Tuesdays to Fridays from 11.30 AM to 4.30 PM. This is a good deal for this part of town, though the soft drinks were pricey and pushed up our bill a little. But the service as I have said didn’t live up to its “express” billing – it was as well that we were under no pressure to hurry back to work that day ;-)
In the evenings, particularly on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday you may have some time to wait before you get a table as it gets really busy.
The menu consists of burgers, steaks, ribs and fajitas and is quite expensive expect to pay around £35 a head).
I have been to Maxwell's a few times with friends and have enjoyed myself although I have to say that this is probably more due to the fact that I am in the company of good friends than the location of where we were.
I would most probably recommend that you go to TGI's if it is American fanfare that you are after as it is a bit cheaper and they offer better cocktails, although saying that I found the food, service and atmosphere in Maxwells' to be fine, however, just a bit overpriced in my opinion.
Although the atmosphere is nice and the staff friendly, the food took ages to arrive, and when it eventually did come is was hardly anything to shout about. I've had better meals in McDonalds and have not felt robbed.
It is possible we caught them on a bad day as other people were having similar issues. The only problem is that it has put me off from ever going there again. Shame because from the outside it looks quite nice.
The service after that was great (a waiter with humour!) and the dessert of sticky toffee pudding and pistachio ice cream was wonderful.
Still, the place is a bit loud, so I probably wouldn't go there if I wanted to chat, but if it were with a group of friends it would be fine.
