Marlborough Road Veterinary Centre

After being a loyal customer for many years, we decided to leave this practice. Our cat showed signs of weight loss and a diagnosis of Hyperthyroidism was in my opinion missed in hindsight and diagnosed over a year late. By that time, he developed heart failure as a result. After an admission to out of hours, we were told to book an appointment with Marlborough Rd to review our cat and my husband was greeted by an over-tired vet who said to bare with him because he couldn't think properly. He didn't seem to know what was going on and never gave us any guidance about the longer term management plan, the medications our cat was now on or how frequently we would need to be reviewed. And it turns out, our cat has been taking medication he didn't need to be on. We also had problems with repeat prescriptions and when ordering the medication only to find that we had to re-order as its been forgotten and not ordered. These meds were pertinent to avoid clots or further heart failure.

I am travelling away from home and staying in Cardiff. Generally, it's been very difficult to find a vet in this city with any availability to examine my dog with a leg ailment, making it difficult for her to walk. I enquired at this vet and was just curtly told they were "unable to register any new patients at the current time." No help whatsoever in terms of suggesting any alternatives. I didn't feel their response was pet- or owner-friendly. I was surprises because vets in other places I have visited in the UK have shown themselves more willing to help, even through the pandemic.

Do not trust the verbal price you are given. I was verbally quoted £200 by Oliver (the Head Vet) for my cat being monitored but when I came to pay, I was charged £330. I had apparently signed paperwork agreeing to a higher price range. I signed the form at the same time as I was given the verbal quote. That was not the worst of it, after may cat was put to sleep (for a further charge which was ok) I was called the next morning and asked for a further £60 as I had been undercharged! I am really upset with this service as the Cowbridge Road office - my normal vets - are excellent. I cannot praise Charlotte enough.

I don't usually leave reviews but saw some old ones on here were bringing down the average ratings so felt I should leave an up-to-date one.

I can't say enough great things about this surgery. Since one of my cats first became sick in November 2018 I have probably been their most frequent customer. During this time I have only ever had positive experiences with them. They keep me updated with all processes, and always call back when they say they will. Any treatment is explained fully to me, as are my options, so I still get to feel in control of some pretty scary situations!

The entire staff from Receptionists to Nurses to Vets are all excellent and compassionate. When I first registered with the surgery in 2010 I was indifferent, and indeed there were some vets I'd refuse to see, but the changes over the years have resulted in a dynamic environment with knowledgeable staff who have quite literally saved my cats life more than once!

I recently took ownership of an elderly dog that I'd been walking for a number of years. She needed veterinary care from the outset and Marlborough vets were there for us the whole way through until no more could be done and we had to say goodbye to our little one. I asked if their final service to my dog could be performed in my camper van - a place that she was familiar with and they were more than happy to comply. It was obviously a sad day and the vet advised I could telephone at a later time to pay which I much appreciated. I highly recommend the services of Marlborough Road Vets.
