Business overview

ALL ASPECTS OF STONEWORK, BRICKWORK, WALLING, LANDSCAPING, PAVING, BARN CONVERSIONS AND THE CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION OF LISTED BUILDINGS AND PROPERTIES.

Mark lives in Plymouth, Devon and on leaving school in 1979 he joined the Department Of Environment to start his apprenticeship. During that time he worked on many buildings within Devonport Dockyard, H.M.S. Drake Naval Barracks, the Drill Shed, the Quadrangle, older buildings situated in Morice Yard such as the Officer's Terrace, the Old Sail Making Stores and also the Rope Store in South Yard. All of these buildings have a Grade listing from English Heritage.

More experience was gained by working at other establishments like The Royal Citadel on Plymouth Hoe, Stonehouse Barracks in Durnford Street, The Royal Naval Hospital, R.A.F. Mountbatten, H.M.S. Cambridge and even the Breakwater in Plymouth Sound.

At that time his father ran a successful cleaning company, and branched out into stone cleaning and restoration in the early 1980's. On completion of his City & Guilds, Mark joined the family business in 1983, going on to complete many prestigious jobs throughout the South-West.

This is a Grade II listed archway situated at Lockyer's Quay, Plymouth. It was thought to originally be an entrance to a Napoleonic prison. It was re-built using photograghs and drawings issued by archeologists from Exeter museum.
We were asked to lower the window cills of all the windows to this Grade II listed church in Looe, which was converted into sheltered accomodation. Once the cills were lowered, we then carried out repairs to all the Beere stone around the building which included tracery wind, doorways, mullions etc.
We rebuilt ten chimneys for this hotel using photgraphic records, this is just one of those chimneys.
We carried out all the cleaning and restoration of Derry's Clock in the heart of Plymouth's city centre.
The conversion of a barn and shippon at Whitely Farm, the section of building to the right of this picture was completely rebuilt using traditional lime mortar and existing stone.
We completely re-built the coner and steps of this historic landmark on Plymouth's Hoe after it became dangerous to the point of collapsing into the sea.
The rebuilding of a large section of wall at Lynham Estate. It collapsed due to tree roots undermining the foundations, it was re-built using lime mortar and the existing stone, the wall is grade II listed and dates back to the 1700's.
An extension to the gate house at Cleeve Estate, all the stone was taken from an existing wall on site and used within the construction.
This patio was designed on the style of a compass, it was made from scratch using templates made by ourselves. Four different colours of stone were used to enhance the overall effect. It actually points North and LED lights were installed to highlight North, East, South and West.
A conservatory for this perid property. We used three diffferent colours of granite and five different sizes to match the existing stonework on the main house, All the stone was dressed by ourselves on site.
We built a new fireplace for this pub situated on Plymouth's historic Barbican, The fireplace was designed to replicate an old kiln which was used to fire the pottery in this building where William Cookworthy made his Plymouth Porcelain
