Gorgeous food

We held our work's Christmas party here last Christmas. The restaurant is cosy and the staff were great- particularly as at the time they were having to deal with a very long table full of all my colleagues all talking over each other whilst they were trying to serve the food.

To the food....I had grilled sardines to start and they were lovely- too many places in Cardiff don't seem able to cook fish properly- to the point that I've almost given up bothering to order it. My work colleagues all seemed to agree as well, with everyone wanting a taste! I made the obvious choice of a mixed kebab for main which was lovely, and a novelty for some in our party who'd never seen kebabs hanging from the ceiling before.

The thing I remember most about the desserts was the sheer choice- I settled on a white chocolate cheesecake and it was the perfect way to finish the meal.

I would highly recommend madeira to anybody who wants a good atmosphere, friendly service and well cooked, reasonably priced food.

worth going

I first went to the Madeira after nagging my OH about it - they often went there for work lunches, and I wanted to know what all the fuss was about!

This is a good fun place to go to eat - I have been when it is fairly busy, but the whole place inside has a great atmosphere and it does not ever make you feel you have to rush yourself. Relaxing and lively, if that is possible.

The food is good - and price-wise not too expensive for the town centre location, and varied. We have been several times now, and I would recommend it as a restaurant when you are in the middle of Cardiff.

A lovely night out

I have been to the Madeira both with just my boyfriend and with a large party for the work Christmas do! Both experiences were highly enjoyable. The staff could not be anymore helpful or friendly, especially when dealing with a large group. They managed to serve all of us our meals and keep the drinks coming direct to the table.

The food is lovely and the large kebabs are hung from hooks on the ceiling which is something different to enjoy. The battered cauliflower is brilliant and I don’t even like cauliflower that much! Add a good bottle of wine and you are well away. The starters and desserts are also lovely and although I have not tried any as yet there is a good selection of fish on the menu.

The restaurant itself is cosy and I have not yet been there when it wasn’t busy and full of atmosphere. There are some lovely little wooden booths and the lighting is low and welcoming. All in all I would highly recommend the Madeira if you want a cosy romantic meal or somewhere that can accommodate a party and still provide friendly and efficient service.

Portuguese? Mmmm yes please!

The Madeira is a lovely little Portuguese restaurant with a rustic feel and warm atmosphere. The staff are the friendliest I’ve ever come across and give the impression that they are more than happy to help. The food is also excellent, on my visit I ordered a chicken espatada which is a kind of kebab where the skewers are hung above the table with garlic butter dribbling down the meat. It came with plenty of vegetables too including cauliflower in batter which are to die for.

There is a lunch time menu which is also available with a deal which includes two courses at a discounted price.

The Madeira offers great food and the friendliest service you could imagine.

Fantastic Food and Charismatic Staff

This fantastic little restaurant is a family run establishment with one brother as the chef, the other as head waiter and their wives as waitresses. The family, all originally from Madeira produce delicious original portuguese food. Their Espadas (chicken/beef or fish on skewers hanging from the ceiling)are exciting, with their fillet steak being one of the best I've tried in Cardiff. The staff are chatty and vivacious making you feel at home but in the same breath transporting you across the water to their small island of Madeira. Without fail there will always be a couple of birthday parties, where all the staff sing the traditional portuguese birthday song and give the birthday boy a shot of local produce! A truely fantastic experience with very reasonably priced food, and trust me... you will leave full!
