Too busy to bother?

Martin came to my house and after taking details agreed to return following day to do gutters and some rendering. 4 days later he was working at a house 3 doors down. I amicably spoke to him and he again said he would do work. 6 weeks later, 2 follow up texts and calls and I have heard nothing.

Mr cavanagh swept two chimneys for a reasonable price, removed the blockage of one (a bird) was clean & tidy & we found him to be courtious. He advised a chimney cap which he said he would come & fit if we wanted. Gave a price, wasn't pushy. We called him & he came back to do the job Sat am.. arrived on time with roof ladders so no tiles were spoiled. Advised our facias sofit had already been covered with pvc which was made to look like wood (when we asked for a quote to replace to Pvc).
Didn't alter price quoted. We were happy with Mr cavanagh's work & would use again.
Also he happily accepted late payment from US for the first job as we'd misplaced our bank card reader to transfer cash (just moved into the house).

Mr Cavanagh personally swept two chimneys for me. I had to chase for many weeks for a receipt of payment. He also finally arrived to complete some of the work originally quoted, he'd given me a verbal quote which I agreed. Though once he claimed the work was completed he attempted to nearly double the fee. I paid him what we had originally agreed, though he only repaired (with roof mastic) some broken slates and did not replace them. Once I'd paid him I realised he hadn't re-grouted the ridge tiles on the higher roofs though he claimed to have done this too.
Today four months after his 'repairs' I had to get an emergency roof specialist, as I had a leak on my roof. He found the problem. A tile had been 'repaired' by nailing it without ensuring the nail was under the slate above so over time the rain had been running through the hole, cracking the plaster and eventually it dripped through today.
I originally asked Mr Cavanagh about the ridge tiles on the higher roof that didn't look to have been repaired, before he left he assured me it was just the angle and they were soundly cemented in. The emergency roof specialist confirmed they had not been pointed so they were indeed left. There was no mistake made about Mr Cavanagh's response and I would not recommend his firm or use them again.
