Business overview
featuring the villainess of Jane Austen's novel Sense and Sensibility
Want to know all about the profitable future career of the former Miss Lucy Steele in Jane Austen's novel Sense and Sensibility? Then you have come to the right place! Jeff
For this is where she of the 'Sharp quick eye and a smartness of air turns her skills from creating problems into solving them!'
In Sense and Sensibility we learn of 'frequent domestic disagreements' between newly married Mrs Lucy Ferrars and her husband. While divorce was very difficult; the opportunity to see each other as little as possible was a lot easier!
Sense and Sensibility was not published until 1811 but it was set earlier, I assume the year 1798 for when Lucy was 'two or three and twenty'.
HISTORICAL NOTE: GEORGIAN V REGENCY 'the term regency' is always a confusing one given that the historical narrowness contrasts with the wider usage in terms of, for example furniture and fashion. In this sense Lucy (and even more so perhaps her friend Caroline) are very much 'Regency gals' and if you choose to think of them as such I am sure they will not have the slightest objection!
