With a background predominantly in repair and restoration Robert Loomes was convinced it was possible to design, sketch and manufacture every component required to create an English watch. producing a watch from scratch under one roof. Each component is carefully sketched by hand, before starting the meticulous process of turning a sketch into machined components. Replicating the principles of Thomas Loomes, in the true tradition of English Watchmaking, Loomes & Co run their workshops in a traditional manner employing 12 highly skilled staff , each individual responsible for one aspect of our clock or watchmaking. Responsibilities include everything from machining components to the final assembly.

At the heart of the watch is a 1950’s English movement. Entirely re-worked for the Robin watch, the mechanism is highly polished in the Stamford workshops and then engraved with a distinctive new design to echo those Thomas Loomes used in the 17th century for his own English watches.

Thanks for the advice offered about a customer’s clock dial. This provided a good working solution that avoided an unnecessary and expensive restoration. The customer was very pleased with the final result.

Never Again

I took a military pocket watch in as it suddenly refused to wind. I had owned the watch for two years, had purchased it from a collector and author of military books, it had been serviced prior to delivery.I paid the fee, returned the following week to be told that it must be fully serviced prior to repair and that all together it would be £1500, I explained I had paid £950 for it, including a service, and from where i got it it.I asked what was wrong with the watch, received a vague answer, feeling uncomfortable I asked for the watch back and would not have it repaired, i was offered a free relume of the hands, which i did not want to be done, the watch had some excellent military markings and featured in a book.
I took the watch home intending to put up with it not working. A few weeks later I put the brief story on a forum, i was asked to explain the fault, and to take some pictures. I was offered advice from several members including a suggestion on repair. I fixed it in 3 hours !

Robert I am sorry you felt like this. We offered a price to get the watch back to "good as new" condition and this included polishing pivots and replacing jewels. As we explained, we do not do part repairs

Breitling sorted. Well done

Took my Breitling in as no one elsewhere had a special tool to remove the back. I just needed it to be adjusted. Very helpful and it is now near perfect timekeeping for a very modest fee. Well done thanks.

Never again

I took my bracket clock in for a service and paid the inspection fee. I was then informed it was a difficult fusee mechanism and would cost £750 to repair. This surprised me as I know a bit about clocks. I asked if we were talking about the same clock and it was made clear to me that we were. I said I wasn't prepared to pay this amount. When I picked the clock up I was asked if I would change my mind as the clock needed re-bushing. I declined and took it to another clock repairer who confirmed it only needed a service - cost £125 - and that it was not a fusee mechanism
