Lock House Restaurant

I have been going to the Lock house every other weekend with various family members for about 18 months. I cannot praise the food & the staff highly enough. The meals are lovely and home cooked. It doesn't matter how many of us there are or the ages the staff treat us all so well. My sister has become vegetarian but it's not a problem. In fact the staff bend over backwards to help by giving her different choices. We sometimes go with children who are only 2 & 3 years but we are welcomed. The prices are very reasonable & the food is excellent.The Lock house has a 5 star for cleanliness ect. I have found that it's usually better too book in advance which only goes to show how good it is as they do get busy at times. I must confess that I have never felt the need to write a review before so I feel that I am not doing them a service. I will be going again this weekend & I am very much looking forward to it.

My family went to the Lockhouse for a Christmas meal this weekend. The food was extremely good and plentiful, and it was certainly good value for money. The staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful. We have aready to decided to go back for a Christmas meal next year.

My partner and I visited yesterday (9/10/16). The attitude of the heavily tattooed girl who served us was terrible. Pulling her face because we asked to be allowed to pour our own milk into our tea. The tea was served in paper cups, which were only half full (we were charged £1.70 per cup). When we eventually persuaded the young lady to provide milk separately, she rudely shouted to a colleague that she was sick of people making such requests and they (the café) should start charging extra. We ordered scones which were only served with butter. When I returned to the serving hatch to ask about cream and jam I was treated to the bad attitude again and charged a further 80p. The cream was watery and the jam came in a small plastic packet. These people have no idea. We won't be returning.

We visited around lunchtime and the café was busy with lots of people sat outside watching the boats in the lock etc.....
We found a table and grabbed a menu but were disappointed with the choices. It certainly didn't grab us. We eventually decided on a pot of tea for two and a fruit and cherry scone.
The teapot was only just big enough to fill the smallest teacups once and our scones were dry and stale. We should have complained but decided to just leave. The biggest issue we have is that if you don't sit inside in the restaurant (which was empty) you have to queue at a serving hatch to order and collect your food. You cant see any of the food which may sway your selection. Really disappointing. Could be so much better but you must try harder!!
As we were leaving we saw several plates with leftovers on, teacakes etc so we were clearly not the only ones who had this experience.

I have been to the Lock house twice and each time was a pleasure. The location in Great Haywood by the canal is beautiful and makes the experience . The food is homely and good. The prices are very reasonable.
