Get away from Charing Cross Road

I just came here for a bottle of wine with a friend and it is the perfect find when you are stressed out with the noise and tourists up and down charing cross road. It's such a relief to land here and find a cosy corner for a nice chat.

I did find the mix of French and English themes in the decor a bit confusing - the French bit would have been fine on its own but I'm sure there's a good story behind it which I'll have to enquire about next time.

Le Beaujolais

Chat up a member and angle for an invitation downstairs to the restaurant. It's the only place to eat in London (if you can get in).
It's a testament to the quality of the food that whenever they try and change the menu, the members don't let them.
French and English classics, prepared with skill and care, and washed down with fine but unpretentious wine and one of Jean-Yves' cognacs.....heaven!
Most of the members are 'of a certain age' and many come in from miles around as it's an oasis in a mad, mad city.

A Hidden Romance

I was taken to Le Beaujolais on a date with French guy, of course. I love this place, it's so French but they have all these British football scarves as decoration. I love the mugs and ties hanging from the ceiling. Very cozy and intimate. The staff were friendly and more than happy to help you choose any wine, though my date knew what he wanted to order. We ended up chatting to the man sitting beside us about art. We didn't ordered food at the time because we went after dinner so I can't review that.

Cosy French Wine Bar

I know I've passed Le Beaujolais a number of times over my years in London, and it's testament to how spoiled we are ion this city that I never went in. I've lived in London for almost 8 years now, and my first glass of wine at at Le Beaujolais was only 6 months ago.

That, is a shame, as it's the kind of place I love. Dark, cosy, intimate and selling a quality product at reasonable prices. It's the perfect spot for a hudddle with a friend over a nice bottle of wine. The crowd are the furthest thing from pretentious, this place is the real deal.

They sell food, rustic French fare, which I've yet to sample, but I will, and I'll come back and tell you all about it!
