Laurence Mathews

I have attended a number of lesions at "Laurence Mathews" using the Bob Ross wet on wet technique. These were given by Ian and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of them. I now have a good understanding of how to prepare and use the method of painting ...Thanks Ian ! also the shop and staff are great give them a pay rise Michael lol ...

I read some of the reviews for the shop & felt obliged to stand up for them. Every time I go it’s a positive experience & to be fair the subject matter is indeed enormous, so give them a break if they don’t always have a10 out of 10 response, so don’t be lazy do your own research, there’s a great tool out there call the internet. Treat yourself & give it a try. I drive 25 miles to call in. Oh & they’ve never shouted at me & been rude when I’ve checked out the paint brushes. Enjoy!

Was in Southend yesterday and pop into Laurence Matthews for some paints and thinner for my airbrush. It had everything I needed. Fantastic art shop.

I took my bead embroidery picture to Lawrence Matthews art supply shop back in summer and straight away when I came to collect it I wasn’t happy with the result. Then I have explained to the staff how I wanted it to be done and took two of my framed pictures to show them how to stretch and fix the fabric with the staples so it’s perfectly flat with no crises. When I came to collect it the second time it looked slightly better so I kind of accepted it because I am not good with confrontation, although it cost me £85. But now after about 6 months I look at my picture and all I see is crises! I have opened the frame to see how this has been done and try to understand why the fabric went all saggy and I saw that it’s been sellotaped, that’s all😡 And the staff in the shop were telling me it’s impossible to stretch it more than what they did!!! Well now I understand that they just didn’t do they job professionally and they didn’t listen to their client! Very disappointing 😡😡😡

As a returning modeller i am sometimes bewildered by the new tools and techniques for building kits. the shop staff are very helpful and knowledgeable and the selection of paints and models is second to none
