1Although the first 2 hour session was useful, after that the gardener cancelled appointments, without even an hour's notice a couple of times in succession, on the basis of:
1. having over run at another customer's garden
2. having the flu
I would not have minded either of these had he told me with some advance notice but I had to contact him to ask where he was at the scheduled times.
On the third re-scheduled appointment for a one hour session, he turned up half an hour late with no apology, only to explain that he was caught up at another garden again but nevertheless could only spend twenty minutes with me, instead of the hour requested.
At the end of the twenty minutes, I expected that the rate charged would be reduced due to his lateness but instead he explained that the company's policy was to charge £20 for any time spent under one hour.
I was never told this by their boss on initially signing up and nor did he remind me of this when he turned up late. He explained that even if he chose to spend only 15 minutes instead of an hour, I still have to pay £20 which does not make any sense from the customer's point of view. This should have been explained on turning up late in which case I would have asked him to come another time and spend the one hour which would cost the same amount!
I felt that the entire approach of the gardener was unprofessional- whilst customers would be understanding of the need to re-arrange appointments, we expect to be treated with respect which was not at all demonstrated by-
-the late notices of the post-ponements, meaning that I would have to contact him at the time of the appointments, often twenty minutes in, asking where he was.
- the reaction I got when he walked out of my house without waiting for my explanation, when I explained that I didn't understand why I had to pay £20 after he was late and spent only half the time I had requested.
Dear John in regards to your complaint our work is very reasonably priced. Other company's would charge from £60 minimum for 1 hour or 2 hours garden maintenance and do not even have the correct equipment to complete jobs faster, so you have been giv more than reasonable price and I believe your complaint is non-relevant as you have been explained this. The gardener did have the flu and had explained this to your wife and when appointments had been made and postponed. The view I got from yourself and the gardener you both kept missing each other, so all he wanted to do is make sure that he kept his appointment and had done so although running late from other appointments throughout the day you being the last appointment your garden had been completed through the understanding we received.
