Julian Child Clock Repairs

Superb service from an outstanding master craftsman. Mr Child's is very patient (as a result of life intervening for a few months - I actually omitted to collect my box of inherited and elderly clocks I had left with him for repair some months previously until I was gently nudged to collect them), painstaking and generous with his time (no pun intended). He explains carefully what he has done, and whether he feels will be able to fully repair a clock or indeed if it is worth spending time on it as well is clearly identifying the 'type' on sight. On collection not only running splendidly but with beautifully polished/restores/cleans cases and dials etc. Whilst not especially fast or cheap very reasonable and fair costs and time spent on repairs indicates the care taken with precious heirlooms. I heard about the quality of Julian Child's work 'on the grapevine' and have highly recommended him to friends and would always return if needed a repair or advice.

Julian visited yesterday to replace the cable suspending one of the weights in our grandfather clock. It transpired that the cables were (not very robust) plastic-coated wire that were put in when the clock was restored (expensively) 5 years ago! Julian replaced them both with more appropriate catgut. His charge for the home visit and repair was more than reasonable and it is good to have our old clock working once more. We will without hesitation contact Julian for any future work on our clock, and can recommend him thoroughly.

Julian repaired a troublesome carriage clock which had been serviced three times by other clockmakers but had never run properly - I'm delighted to have found him.

Julian repaired a clock of sentimental value and made it work again. In addition, he invented a mechanism that meant we can hear its beautiful chimes by day and yet turn them off at night. We are absolutely delighted. He has a long waiting list but it is worth it for such careful and professional work.
