John the Turf

let me just say one thing.90 percent of my competitors do not do this job correctly. Preparation as with most jobs is essential. Let me tell you a trick of the turfing trade. Most companies who lay turf also do a variety of other jobs(tree work, patios etc.)

To prepare a garden properly for turfing two pieces of equipment are essential.

1.Turfcutter.this handy piece of kit removes the old lawn and root system.

2.Rotavator.this machine breaks up the compacted soil

Total cost to buy the above machinery £8000.(I own 1 of each)

Most landscapers don't own a turf cutter so they will say its fine to rotavate the old lawn(or worse cover it with soil and turf over the top)This is bad practice. the old grass underneath your new turf will die and rot and create an uneven

lawn.

The ground is then levelled, firmed and then levelled again to a perfectly smooth finish.
