Shkayla at The Queens Hall Nuneaton

For us at Nuneaton Folk Club in July 2019, it was an attempt to cross boundaries by staging something beyond candles in bottles. "Folk" is only a label-part of what is now a very broad church. Joe O' Donnells Shkayla are innovative Celtic Rock. Their music transcends boundaries and explores horizons by blurring lines between genres. Our audience embraced this concept warmly.
Their sets combined identifiable Celtic patterns with 21st century musicianship. At times it was difficult to know where to look,as on stage musicians traded solos, swapping them back and forth seamlessly. The standard of musicianship was outstanding. The complex arrangements were remarkable. The rapport and chemistry as the band members fluidly exchanged musical passages was sublime. These thoughts reflect not only what organisers felt, but was the general consensus of some very heavy traffic reflected on our NFC Facebook Page afterwards. Creative. Imaginative. Mind-expanding
