The previous reviews are complete nonsense. It is usually the owner who is in charged, and I find her very friendly. Admittedly, the place (including an upstairs place) is a bit cramped, but the selection of new, antiquarian, and second-hand books on art and architecture is excellent, not the usual second-rate ones which appear in other book-shops, and most are at a fair price; any expensive ones are genuinely rare. It is also easy to order online from Janette Ray. Also, to get in, you often need to ring the doorbell, a refreshing change from the likes of Waterstone's which keep their doors entirely open no matter what the temperature outside, which is also a waste of heating energy inside, but it's hopeless to convince anyone in the UK that energy should be conserved. I know anyone can browse at Janette Ray's as much as they like, while it is impossible to browse in the interiors of a chilly, windswept Waterstone's.
