Business overview

Pidgeons, The Cardiff Family Funeral Director Established 1920 overseen by John Pidgeon

Today the dedicated staff at Pidgeons have between them over 300 years of experience in the funeral profession, serving the needs of the bereaved. All the company’s funeral directors hold a professional qualification in funeral directing and the remaining staff are highly trained professionals.

When Pidgeons first traded in 1920 there were many undertakers in Cardiff. Times have changed. Today there are no undertakers in Cardiff – funeral directors have taken their place. Many people think undertakers are the same as funeral directors.

This is incorrect – an undertaker will undertake to build you a new wall, or paint your room or even make you a coffee table or undertake your funeral. A funeral director, however will only provide a funeral or services directly related to it.

Today, Pidgeons The Cardiff Family Funeral Director established 1920 is still overseen by John Pidgeon and continues to employ local staff who are all resident in the local community.

Incredible service and care

5
Unlike a previous review I found all at Pidgeons, polite, caring and sincere in their genuine desire to help me(the bereaved) nothing was too much trouble, their attention to detail was incredible.
I can only thank them for their wonderful care and dedication and service....I must admit that I forgot to ask for a few things during the arrangements, but when I requested them at a later date they were done instantly and with grace. An example of this being I arrived to collect mums ashes only to discover they were in one cardboard container... whereas I recal John saying a council box is supplied without charge I forgot to say I wanted mums remains separated for 3 different family members. Pidgeons did this for me whilst I waited without fuss and without charge. I cannot praise them enough.

Check and double check all requests and plans!!!

Having unexpectedly lost my father a few weeks ago my sister and I were charged with making all the funeral plans. We were guided through the process carefully and given practical advice in our initial meeting (neither of us having been in this position before). The written breakdown of the costs differed from our plan and this was queried and confirmed by telephone prior to the funeral. The day itself went well with the driver of the family car being very patient after the crematorium service waiting to transport us to the wake.My only reason for dropping 3 stars in this review was that when arriving to collect the ashes, I was given only one scatter tube instead of the 2 requested. This caused some distress and while it was rectified by "decanting" while I waited, no apology was made for the error only for the ensuing wait.

Sympathetic sensitive professionals

Having had poor experiences elsewhere for close family, I was determined to leave my family with a lasting good memory when my mum passed on. Pidgeon were excellent from the moment I first made contact for a quote, clearly telling me what I outlined I wanted would cost. Everything they did was first class. Their staff were all well turned out. The cars (jaguars) were as new. All the staff I encountered were without exception were sympathetic and knew what they were doing and ensured my family and I received an excellent service for my mum.I read somewhere that they endeavour to look after the bereaved as if they were one of their own family and it certainly came across that way to me. They may not be the cheapest, but I think they gave fair value for their charges considering the vehicles they use must cost a fortune and are new, not like the old cars I have experienced elsewhere. When the bill came I was happy to see it was marginally less than originally agreed, unlike others I used.
