Great service from historic boatyard deserves its 5 stars

Following a survey my 70 year old carvel cruiser needed some of her copper fastenings replaced which involved removing part of the interior of the saloon along with some rot repairs and stripping and revarnishing the mast. I asked Kings for a price which seemed reasonable but came with a caveat that pricing this sort of work was difficult and there may need to be some swings and roundabouts on the costing. When the boat came out the centreboard could not be freed so the keel had to come off which needed the engine to be removed and I added refurbishment of the coachroof to the jobs. Throughout Sarah kept me informed of progress, Gus provided expert advice and the craftsmen and craftswomen showed great skill and dedication in doing a great job and nothing was too much trouble. Yes the job had expanded and the costs increased but all the costs were reasonable and in my view I received great value for money. It was a pleasure to work alongside the Team at Kings and highly recommend them.

Friendly, efficient, knowledgeable, good value and reliable. I have had my 8m yacht with them for 12 years with no issues. Sarah is excellent with the admin and email info and Gus knows everything about boats and seems to be able to fix everything too. I am a very satisfied customer and hope to have my boat with them for many years to come.

From my experience Harry Kings Boatyard provides a high level of service to its customers. Providing free advice if working on the boat yourself. Experienced Rigging, fabrications and engine mechanical services are readily available at the yard. Highly recommended.

Marcita (Buchanan 1957) was built By Harry King & Sons and has spent most of her life there, being looked after by the yard. This year we needed a new rudder shoe in stainless steel, and they did a great job of making and fitting it. It was reasonably priced, and the result is going to make us feel much more secure if caught out in bad weather. Marcita is wood, but they do GRP and steel/aluminium as well, and I'd heartily recommend them to anyone on the east coast needing skilled work, combined with beautiful scenic moorings, with curlews and oystercatchers for your alarm clock.
